#Vertical Response0 discussing

Just inherited my Salesforce data and responsibilities, and still figuring it out how it all works. My predecessors used Vertical Response to manage contacts and email campaigns, and they tell me that the data stored in Vertical Response is different than what we have in Salesforce.

What I don't understand is that I have a VR integration in Salesforce, which is wildly out-of-date compared to what I can see when I log in directly to VR. On the other hand, I have no idea what's in the VR silo that's not in Salesforce, so I'd like to combine it into Salesforce so I don't have to look in two places.

Is that an argument for integration? Or should I split the two and use import/export to manage the data? Am I even asking the right questions?

I've been using VR for many years but have not updated to the most recent vn on the appexchange.  I am using vn 1.1.  I have been reading about VR2 vs VR classic, and I'm confused about the difference, and am worried that I'll break my VR functionality if I install the version on the appexchange (1.15, but I don't know if that's "VR2" or "VR classic".  Can anyone clarify?

Separate question: I have noticed that the load report back from VR in a recent VR email campaign lists a bunch of Unsubscribes whose Contact records in SF do not have the Email Opt Out checkbox checked.  I thought that VR automatically checked that checkbox when someone unsubscribes - that pressing the Update Statistics button was not required.  Am I missing something?

I also noticed that VR documentation has a feature called Global Sync, but it is in the VR Setting tab which does not even exist in my version of VR.  Might that control when the Email Opt Out checkbox is checked, and must I install the newest vn (VR2) to get it?

I just logged into an instance of SF that integrates Vertical Response, visited the "VR Email" tab...and the list of past VR sends (lists and emails) showed up from a ***different*** SF instance that I also work with.  Different login, different server....but there they were!

Other SF pages were the correct instance, no mixup there - just the VR page.

Any ideas what might be up?

Has anyone implemented a User Profile page for donors to manage their sub-subscriptions?  We are trying to weigh effort of setting one up vs the success of avoiding blanket unsubscribes and thereby retaining donors on at least some lists?  Would be great if anyone is willing to share their experience with these pages.  Thank you!

I don't have any data on this but in MailChimp terms you would create sub-subscriptions as Groups and leave them on the Sign Up page. Then in your emails you would include an "update your profile" link as well as the Unsubscribe. Email marketing best practice is a one click unsubscribe so this lets MailChimp and you do both, at some cost of people who don't bother to update their preferences. http://kb.mailchimp.com/campaigns/design/add-an-update-profile-link

Does anyone use Vertical Response for email or know if the VR application on the exchange uses TLS 1.1 or 1.2 encryption?

My impression is that it does not and therefore the VR app will no longer work after March 4. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks Matt. VR is on the list and it appears they are not compliant as indicated by their technical support team.

Any suggestions for a great app or way to send mass emails? We currently use icontact but the template and email creation process is too cumbersome. We need our emails to have our program's look and feel (colors, image, html text, etc.), but our actual text/content changes for each email, so a template has to be easily edited. Also ideally, we would like to use a custom email field (not the standard email field), but might be able to work around that if the app was otherwise a good fit. Right now we're leaning toward Vertical Response, but don't want to miss any other good contenders! Thanks for any info you have to share!

We use Hubspot and love it customized email templates, workflows and one-off emails. Also their webforms are very easy to use and how most of our prospects enter our system.

I'm looking for a freelancer to take over my editing of Vertical Response emails. You would receive content from us, insert the articles into our format (I can forward a sample to you), proofread, and test. You would not launch emails or be involved with list creation. This work takes me about two hours per email (one every week, a few skips) and as a professional you would probably do it faster! Send interest to Terry@StreetYouthMinistry.org directly for instructions to apply. We plan our newsletters 4 weeks in advance, provide copy 2 weeks in advance, and do copy editing/proofing 1 week in advance. Our publication deadline is every Wednesday (a few skips.) We have a slightly tighter schedule for graphic design because it has to connect to copy. I'm open to including light copy editing and graphic design as well, but it's not required. @Nonprofit and Education Jobs #VerticalResponse @Marketing Communications

We use VR Classic, which has a standard set of reports. Individually run, the reports function normally. However, we have a series of Dashboards to monitor when contacts click on a link in an email, open an email, unsubscribe, or bounce. However, the Dashboards are no longer showing new emails sent by our newsletter manager after September or so of last year, with the notable exception of two emails I sent out to our entire list earlier this year.

Has anyone encountered this issue before, or have any solutions? I'm wondering if it is because we have too many email records for the system to handle (which will hopefully get archived shortly).

@Juanita Pauldon Have you looked at the various email marketing tools that integrate with Salesforce? There are several that are free or low cost to nonprofits such as #VerticalResponse #Constant Contact #MailChimp and then you have more robust solutions such as #ExactTarget. Many of these will allow you to use campaign members as the basis for sending out emails through their platforms. Here is more info about the various solutions with links to analysis: https://powerofus.force.com/_ui/core/chatter/groups/GroupProfilePage?g=0F980000000CjRe&fId=0D58000001IvTBO
