Hi everyone,
Salesforce for Outlook is being retired in December 2027, and we are currently reviewing our organisation’s dependency on the legacy Salesforce for Outlook application.
We have just enabled Outlook Integration and Einstein Activity Capture (EAC) in our Salesforce org. However, I’m a little confused about how to confirm whether any users are still using the legacy Salesforce for Outlook app, particularly because users can also install the Salesforce app from Outlook via Get Add-ins.
Could someone please clarify:
1. What is the best way to identify whether users in our org are still using the legacy Salesforce for Outlook application?
2. How can we distinguish the legacy Salesforce for Outlook add-in from the newer Outlook Integration add-in when both appear to be installed through Outlook’s Get Add-ins?
3. Is there a recommended Salesforce report, Setup page, or Microsoft 365 admin location that can help us identify all users currently dependent on the legacy application?
4. Since we already have Outlook Integration + EAC enabled, what should we specifically validate before removing the legacy SFO configuration?
Any guidance or recommended checks would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
#Outlook Lightning Sync #Outlook #Outlook Integration #Outlook Email #Outlook Email Integration #Salesforce Outlook Integration #Lightning Outlook IntegrationHi parul, good migration planning. The thing that clears up the confusion: these are two technically different products, and only ONE of them is a Get Add-ins add-in.
1. Legacy Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) is a COM desktop add-in, installed on the user's Windows PC via the SFO installer, and it depends on Internet Explorer 11. It is NOT from Outlook's Get Add-ins. You find it in the user's Windows Add or Remove Programs, and in Outlook under File, Options, Add-ins, COM Add-ins, listed as Salesforce for Outlook.
2. The modern Outlook Integration IS the add-in you get from Get Add-ins (a web-based Office add-in, the Salesforce side panel). So anything appearing in Get Add-ins is the new one, never legacy SFO.
To find who is still on legacy SFO from the org side:
- Setup, Salesforce for Outlook, Salesforce for Outlook Configurations: active configs with assigned users show who is provisioned.
- Best real-usage signal: Setup, Login History. SFO syncs via the API under its own client, so check the Application column. Recent logins from the Salesforce for Outlook application are users still actively syncing, that is real usage, not just provisioning.
You have already enabled Outlook Integration and EAC, which is exactly the recommended replacement path, so you are on track.
if this helps, please mark it as the Best Answer so it helps the next person, thanks 🙂
