#Advocacy0 discussing

Our Outreach Team is ready to start using Salesforce and I'm trying to find the best tools for their needs, but we also have "credit" to use on Salesforce products. They would be emailing action alerts that would lead constituents to landing pages with sign-on letters, petitions, and maybe events.

I can't seem to find anything that's a perfect fit, but does anyone have Salesforce products they use for some or all of these activities? Some external products I'm looking at are Soapbox Engage and the Action Network, for comparison.

Thanks, all! Yes, Soapbox is at the top of my list right now. I wanted to check on Salesforce products so I could inform others, but that's pretty much what I thought.

Looking to see if anyone has worked with this tool before... They have API documentation on their website (https://help.dogooder.co/en/articles/2168499-do-gooder-s-apis) but I can't find much about anyone who has worked with Salesforce. This is a customer moving off of Nation Builder. Many thanks!

Transaction management tools, Actions, and Events updates - with Teams peer-to-peer fundraising coming soon!

For the Soapbox platform, we closed out 2019 with a variety of updates across the Donations, Shop, Events and Actions apps throughout December. This included initial administrator management of the fundraising Teams in our peer-to-peer add on for Donations for functionality that will be fully released in the coming weeks.

Here's a full breakdown of the updates for each app:

Actions app

  • Added support for lieutenant governor as a pre-defined target
  • Added the title of the Action you are editing in the area above the tab structure of the add/edit view so it is visible across all tabs
  • Resolved issues resulting from changes to Google Civic API that prevented successful validation of a visitor's home address when targeting U.S. House members, U.S. Senators, and Governors for an Action

Donations app

  • Added a toggle to the Donations > Transactions detail view to mark a transaction as refunded. Learn more >>
  • Added ability for admins to search by Refund Status in the Donations > Transactions filter pane. Learn more >>
  • Added support in the Soapbox administrator for creating and managing Teams for peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns. Team fundraising will be fully released in early 2020. If you are interested in learning more about our peer-to-peer fundraising add on, let us know!

Events app

  • Added support for processing free registrations when the Stripe payment processor is enabled for a site
  • Added support for processing paid registrations using the check payment option when the Stripe payment processor is enabled for a site
  • Added support for processing paid registrations using the PayPal standard payment option when the Stripe payment processor is enabled for a site
  • Resolved an issue preventing the payment form from being displayed for some visitors registering for free tickets and including a donation
  • Resolved an issue that prevented the Request Invite modal popup from appearing for an event when the Soapbox standard template is used for a site
  • Resolved a conflict between the Classes app shopping cart functionality and the new standard template for event registration confirmations
  • Resolved an issue where, if a promo code was applied to two or more tickets types for an event, the promo code wasn't saved to Salesforce for any tickets after the first Ticket Type

Shop app

  • Added a toggle to the Shop > Orders detail view to mark a transaction as fraudulent. Learn more >>
  • Added ability for admins to search by Fraud Status in the Shop > Orders filter pane. Learn more >>

Soapbox administrator

  • Resolved an issue where, if an administrator would save changes to the Payment Processor Settings administrator module when Stripe was selected, the URL defined in the Non-SSL URL setting for the site would be removed

Enhancements to peer-to-peer Donations functionality, Stripe upgrades, Soapbox Lightning improvements, and a new Events confirmation email template

Throughout the month of November, we made key additions and fixes to several Soapbox apps. These were primarily centered around further enhancing the peer-to-peer Donations functionality, adding details to Stripe for transactions processed by Soapbox, updates to the Soapbox Lightning administrator, and initial release of a new standard HTML email confirmation template for the Events app that will be generally available in 2020.

Here are the details across all apps:

Donations app

  • Added the title of the Donation app page you are editing in the area above the tab structure of the add/edit view so it is visible across all tabs
  • Added the following metadata saved by the Donations app to a transaction record created in Stripe:
    • Soapbox account prefix
    • Donations as the app processing the transaction
    • Donations app Donation page title
    • Billing name
    • Billing street
    • Billing city
    • Billing state
    • Billing country
  • Dramatically increased speed with which Donations > Tiles pages load for peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns
  • Added further support for the display of credit card submission errors generated by Stripe to those attempting to make donations
  • Resolved issues with the display of progress bar elements on the Donations > Tiles page for peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns
  • Resolved issue where, in particular circumstances, a fundraising page would appear as a fundraising tile on an incorrect peer-to-peer fundraising campaign page
  • Updated the behavior of the donate button for sites using the standard template so that, once it is clicked by the end user, it is disabled to prevent them from clicking it multiple times
  • Resolved an issue that caused Supporter records after the View More button on peer-to-peer fundraising pages to display incorrect data
  • Resolved issue preventing peer-to-peer fundraising page from loading properly if the user associated with the page had a hyphen in their username

Events app

  • Created a new standard HTML template for email registration confirmations that is currently only accessible to Soapbox staff prior to becoming generally available to all users in early 2020
  • Added the following metadata saved by the Events app to a transaction record created in Stripe:
    • Soapbox account prefix
    • Events as the app processing the transaction
    • Event title
    • Billing name
    • Billing street
    • Billing city
    • Billing state
    • Billing country

Shop app

  • Added the following metadata saved by the Shop app to a transaction record created in Stripe:
    • Soapbox account prefix
    • Shop as the app processing the transaction
    • Shop Store title
    • Shop Order Id
    • Billing name
    • Billing street
    • Billing city
    • Billing state
    • Billing country

Actions app

  • Resolved issues resulting from changes to Google Civic API that prevented successful validation of a visitor's home address when targeting State Upper and Lower House Members for an Action

Soapbox administrator

  • Left-aligned contexts of Fundraising Page Title, Donation Form, Fundraiser Username, Fundraiser Name, and Fundraiser Email columns on Fundraising Pages view
  • Updated the order of the icons on Donations > Configuration view to Blocklist, Save, Apply, and Cancel
  • Ensured that, when an admin clicks a cancel button to exit an add/edit view for Events > Searches and Events > Instructors, the admin URL doesn't lose its parameters
  • Removed an extraneous gray box from above the Petitions > Supporters table on the right of the page
  • Updated navigation for Events > Reservation Manager to changes view to View by Order and View by Event
  • Added navigation buttons for Soapbox Lighting in the Media Manager to toggle between Thumbnail View and Detail View

There's a new round of Idea prioritizing you can help do for the Summer 20 release, and on it is something I know is important to many nonprofits: Adding Accounts as campaign members! Go have your say by Sept 22, anyone can contribute their prioritization: https://salesforce.getfeedback.com/prioritize201909

Possible to use Pardot for advocacy petitions?

I'm wondering if anyone has experience creating advocacy petitions using Pardot. Other than GDPR issues (which can be solved by including a manual opt-in and automatically unsubscribing those who don't check it), I can't seem to find any use cases nor solid reasons why this can't be done. Any thoughts?

    @Elizabeth Carena

We wouldn't advise to use Pardot in this way. Just because someone signs a petition does not mean they want your marketing emails. I think it would be better to use the integration with get feedback

Also, you have to create all petition fields as custom fields. If it is a one time form, thats a lot of valuable real estate those fields are taking up on every single prospect record for the small majority of prospects that might have submitted the petition.

Hi! Percolator is once again updating our whitepaper on digital advocacy platforms that sync well with Salesforce. We are considering adding 2 apps if they have a good enough sync: Salsa Engage and Springboard. We like to get real user feedback if we can, so if you or a client are using the new Salsa sync or Springboard and have some time this month to chat with me, please send them my way? Thanks!

I love that you all added a Lead Field option to Petitions. If said Lead Field is just a placeholder and very transactional - The use case we have is "I Represent my Organization's Signature" vs Personal Signature. This contact would not always represent their organization's signature so ideally we'd want to capture this on the campaign member for reporting purposes.

1. Use process builder when a lead is created/converted to updated the related campaign - questionable as leads and campaigns act weird

2. Use process builder to just add a task - same as 1

3. Use process builder on a contact field to update last campaign - same as 1

4. Write custom apex

5. Give up now - Just figure out how to report the converted leads along with the campaign outside of Salesforce entirely

    Hello there Bill!

I've moved your question into a ticket in our ticketing system, so we can proceed with things there. Let me know if you aren't able to find that ticket thread.

We've started looking into this to see if we can come up with a good recommendation for you for this, hopefully we can get you moving in the right direction! I'll look forward to connecting with you via that ticket thread.

    Thanks so much,

    Brad

Add custom fields to your online petition with Soapbox

With today's update to Soapbox, you can now add custom fields to an online petition. These custom fields write directly to Salesforce and augment the existing standard fields included in the Petitions app, allowing you to get exactly the information you need from your supporters.

We are looking for tools to help us track and monitor our members' engagement in our advocacy campaigns, response to calls to action, etc. Any recommendations?

I highly recommend Phone2Action! It's a bit pricey, but as an advocacy org, this tool is the bread and butter of our organization. Integrates seamlessly to Salesforce, the UI is great and easy to navigate. More than happy to discuss it and feel free to name drop if you reach out to them. I've also used CQ Engage for a smaller advocacy coalition. It gets the job done, but is not as intuitive and clunky compared to Phone2Action.
