Realising potential of digitisation... takes people!

I really enjoyed getting quizzed for the keynote at our Salesforce Ecosystem, Trailhead Connect, virtual career fair last week and to send off some amazing job seekers to meet with a diverse set of employers. This was just one initiative that Salesforce and Partners are delivering to help our customer and partners have access to the talent they need.

When I first started leveraging the Salesforce Platform 14 years ago, I remember being wowed by the fact that a platform that was so easy to use could have such a big impact on my sales teams. And although we started simply, we quickly moved towards solving more and more complex challenges, including creating one of the first Google Maps integrations to visualise our global project portfolio.

Today, the Salesforce Platform is a much more mature suite. The core has had 42 major innovation releases since I started using it, and we now include Tableau, Mulesoft and soon to be Slack capabilities in our offerings. However, what was true 14 years ago is still true today:

The technology is amazing and the power of digitisation can be truly transformative – but only if the people who implement and run the platform have the skills and experience to make the most of it.

We've just published three related blogs that look at the connections between people, technology, and digital transformation. Do have a look, share with your own network, and get in touch with any comments or to discuss.

The first - Realising the potential of digitisation needs technology and people

In order to deliver the most impactful transformation, we need to have the right people in place. This means a team that’s diverse, experienced and highly skilled.

The second - Realising the Potential of Digitisation: Key Roles

Salesforce and our partners know that in order to realise the true power of digitisation, our customers need to have access to enough diverse, skilled and experienced people to deliver an exceptional transformation.

And the third - Realising the potential of digitisation - finding talent and opportunities

Where should you start searching for your opportunity, your next great hire? Despite all the opportunity and big numbers like 4.2M new jobs by 2024 in the Salesforce Economy, it's sometimes really difficult to know where to turn to for work and to match talent.

Good luck with your search! Do let us know how you get on. My Salesforce Ecosystem roles have been amazing, #dreamjobs, so far. I wish the same for you and look forward to hearing your Trailblazer story develop.

Are you an Intrapreneur? Join @Intrapreneurs. This is a group for Intrapreneurs in the Trailblazer Community - ‘dreamers who do’. Imagine a world where our economy works for every human. Where business is a solver of problems not just a maker of things. Where institutions are responsible for regenerating ecosystems.

I'm looking for a few Trailblazers who are working from within large organisations with impact and who identify with this word - Intrapreneur - to start building a program and community around. We already have a successful community within Salesforce but would like to expand to the whole Ecosystem. Please refer your colleagues.

Adapt and Thrive - look to your Intrapreneurs

Please join us on June 11th at 10am BST, 11am CET, 7pm AEST, 5am EDT for a session on the New World of Work and to ideate about how we #adaptandthrive, #buildbackbetter, and think about what next.

Register here to sign up for the session and many others.

I'm really thrilled to be joined by Justin DeKoszmovsky (Archipel&Co) and William Sim (Salesforce Trailhead) to help facilitate this working session as part of an amazing line up at Global Intrapreneur Week, a celebration of the innovators who create change from within.

COVID 19 has shone a bright light on each of us acting in support of others first (vs. the task or self), has forced us to change the way we go about our daily work, and exposed inequalities in our society. This session will be a facilitated workshop to co-create a number of scenarios for how we can take the changes we have had to make through necessity, towards a new normal of work for all. We'll look into the roles for the Intrapreneurs who have already identified as change makers and how the new normal can encourage everyone to be an Intrapreneur. We'll focus on how do we make changes sustainable and how do we accelerate work on the issues that have been exposed as we move from Stabilise (mitigating short-term risks and stabilising operations) to Reopen (planning and orchestrating return to the workplace) to Grow (accelerating change to grow the next normal)? Imagine... if we could activate the potential of everyone.

Justin, William, and I will start the session with a few of the questions, experiences, and thoughts that have been coming to us about this and then we'll split into four working groups to co-create around four themes on to look at how we #buildbackbetter:

  • Faster decision making for good - Organisations have made decisions faster and more focused on our health and wellbeing. How do we continue that agility and focus as we move from Stabilise to Reopen to Grow?
  • Bringing our whole selves to work - Working from home has brought our homes into the lives of our colleagues at work and for many, enabled by necessity, meant more of our authentic selves. How do we continue that authenticity as we move from Stabilise to Reopen to Grow?
  • Connecting digitally & humanely - Digital technologies have long promised to change our lives and through COVID-19 they have become the critical connector for most of us. These technologies have broken down walls and opened us up to more accessible encounters. However, not everyone has the access nor the skills they need to take advantage. How do we continue to deliver that promise of digital connection, but make the opportunity available for all, as we move from Stabilise to Reopen to Grow?
  • Our work - more distributed, more local - With work happening at home, we are all travelling less, avoiding built up areas, and reducing our environmental impact. This is resulting in quieter surroundings, clearer skies, and more appreciation of our local economy. How do we continue the development of the local community, distribute our supply chains, and reduce our environmental impact as we move from Stabilise to Reopen to Grow?

I hope this provides a real opportunity to consider, for yourself and your organisation, what some really practical actions will be. As Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is quoted: "Whatever you put attention on will start manifesting in your life. Intention, attention, manifestation; that is how the universe works."

See you on the 11th June!

Stuart
