What are the key differences between SOQL and SOSL, and how would you use them to retrieve filtered Account records versus searching across Accounts and Contacts in a real-time Salesforce application?

Hi @Rakesh Goud The main difference is that SOQL is used to retrieve specific records, while SOSL is used to search for text across multiple objects.

    1. SOQL (Salesforce Object Query Language)

    • Used to retrieve records based on specific conditions.
    • Supports WHERE, ORDER BY, and LIMIT.
    • Supports querying related objects.
    • Example: Retrieve Accounts where Industry is Banking.

    SELECT Id, Name, Industry

    FROM Account

    WHERE Industry = 'Banking'

    2. SOSL (Salesforce Object Search Language)

    • Used to search for text across multiple objects.
    • Searches searchable fields using Salesforce search indexes.
    • Useful when you don't know which object contains the information.
    • Example: Search for "John" in Accounts and Contacts.

    FIND 'John*' IN ALL FIELDS

    RETURNING Account(Id, Name),

    Contact(Id, Name, Email)

    When to use each?

    • SOQL: Reports, filtered Account lists, related records, and specific data retrieval.
    • SOSL: Global search, customer lookup, and searching across Accounts, Contacts, and other objects.

    Real-time Example:

In an LWC application, use SOQL to display Accounts filtered by Industry. Use SOSL when a user enters a customer name in a search box and you want to search both Accounts and Contacts.

    Useful Salesforce Documentation:

My suggestion: Use SOQL when you know what records you need, and SOSL when you need to search for information across multiple objects.

    Hope this helps!

[▶️]🔴🔥🎬 Query Five Levels of Parent-to-Child Relationships in SOQL

The most recent version of SOQL allows relationship queries to traverse up to five levels of parent-child data. This implies that a single SOQL query can be used to retrieve parent-child records from five different levels.

Please be aware, nevertheless, that this capability is limited to doing SOQL queries on both standard and custom objects through REST and SOAP query calls.

The maximum number of Parent-to-Child connection levels for SOQL searches in Salesforce’s Apex class is still limited to two.

Relationship queries in SOQL can have a parent root as the first level and go up to four levels deep with child relationships starting with API version 58.0. With this update, developers may now create complex searches that retrieve data from several parent and child items simultaneously. Before this improvement, these kinds of inquiries were to be made as several independent requests, which added to the complexity and might have affected performance.

🚀 🔥 Difference Between Count() and Count(fieldName) in SOQL Query

The COUNT() method in SOQL (Salesforce Object Query Language) is used to count the number of records that meet specified criteria. It’s similar to the COUNT() function in SQL and is useful when you need to know the total number of records without retrieving all of them.

In SOQL (Salesforce Object Query Language), the COUNT(fieldName) function is used to count the number of non-null (non-empty) values in a specific field across a set of records. This function differs from the COUNT() function, which simply counts the total number of records.

🚀 🔥 Return Type of SOQL and SOSL Queries in Salesforce

SOQL, or Salesforce Object Query Language, is a query language used to interact with the data stored in Salesforce. It is similar in syntax to SQL, the standard database query language, but is specifically designed for Salesforce data.

SOSL, or Salesforce Object Search Language, is a specialized search language developed by Salesforce for searching text, email, and phone fields across multiple objects simultaneously in the Salesforce environment. Unlike SOQL, which is designed for querying specific objects and fields, SOSL is designed to perform text-based search queries across large datasets and multiple objects at once.

In this blog post, I am going to explain the return type of SOQL and SOSL Queries in Salesforce. This is very important to understand as it helps you to use it efficiently.
