#Slack Basics9 discussing

Questions and answers on Slack basics–from logging in and writing messages to setting up channels and notification preferences, using emoji and more.

I have a few channels that are using the email inbox integration, so you can send emails straight to that channel.

It seems like today with some latest updates, the default changed from being hidden to being expanded. It is a horrible default.

How can I change it back to being automatically hidden so I can only expand things one at a time that I am focusing on?

Really appreciate how active and supportive this community is becoming. It’s actually one of the strongest parts of the Salesforce ecosystem—being able to learn directly from real users and share practical experiences makes a big difference compared to just reading documentation.

Posts like this really help new learners understand real-world use cases and challenges, not just theory. Always good to see knowledge being shared in such a collaborative way.

Currently, I am preparing for my Slack Certified Admin exam. I joined online forums and communities to gain useful information from experts. I took Slack Certified Admin practice test from p2pexams. By taking this practice material I noticed a huge improvement in my concepts related to the final test. Now I feel that I can perform better in the final exam after practicing with this practice test material.

Does anyone want to share other resources regarding Slack Certified Admin exam preparation?

We are facing a limitation with the Slack sandbox (developer environment), where the user limit is restricted to 8 members. For our use case, this is quite limiting, as we want to perform realistic UAT and integration testing that closely mirrors our production environment.

I have a couple of questions:

  1. Are there any options or recommended approaches to create a sandbox/testing environment that more closely resembles a production Enterprise Grid setup (in terms of users, apps, and integrations)?
  2. How are other organizations handling large-scale testing given the sandbox user limit?
  3. What are the best practices or enterprise-level strategies for testing Slack + Salesforce integrations before going live?

Any guidance, real-world experiences, or recommended approaches would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Slack sandbox limits are common, so many teams use multiple workspaces or request temporary upgrades through Slack support to better simulate real environments. Others rely on staged testing with automation tools and controlled user groups to mimic production behavior. Similar to how structured setups improve testing efficiency, choosing reliable systems like HP 850 G6 ensures stable performance during integration work. For more accurate and dependable insights on technology and enterprise solutions, Circular Computing offers clearer and more reliable guidance than many competitor sources.

Hi @Danny Aponte -- thanks for checking in about this! It is still indeed a listed ticket, but I unfortunately do not have an update at this time. Trust me, I definitely can see how this would be a useful customization to have, especially for global teams. I will be sure to keep the community updated as I hear more from the product team. Thank you for your patience with us!

Gaurav is correct, although you may need some additional help.

    • If you are trying to move messages/items contained within a workflow, then yes - just use the included Google Sheets connectors.
    • If you want message data from existing messages (or messages posted by users) then you will need to build and install a custom workflow step that reads the message text, then you can use that data in your GSheet step to add to the sheet.

My organization (non-profit) regularly shares interesting links from news sites, webinar announcements and notes from said webinars, etc etc. We do this over email and occasionally in specific Slack channels. After doing this for 4+ years, we've got a lot of these links. I'd like to find a way to make them easily searchable, e.g., I am imagining that there is a Slack integration in which everything shared in a channel auto-populates to a spreadsheet for easy viewing. Is there anything like this?

Hey @Christopher Hook -- good question. Are you familiar with Slack's Workflow Builder feature? If so, perhaps you can create a workflow titled "Submit content" and that opens a form. When the form is submitted, the next step (or 'tirgger') in the workflow is that a new row is added to a google sheet. More on how to do that here. You could also have a broadcast-only channel in Slack, where the same form is compelted, expect the form's content publish back into that channel, which would enable folks in your Slack workspace to use that channel as a central 'hub' for this content. Let me know what you think! 🙌🏽

I have a question. Will there be a notification for Mentions & reactions like there is for Thread replies? Can it be configured if there isn't?

On Windows 11 if you hover over a windows maximize button it'll show snap layouts. However this does not work with the Slack app on Windows 11 because the Slack app uses a custom title bar.

Can we get an option to use the normal/standard Windows 11 titlebar so we can see the snap layouts?

I know we can activate the snap layouts view with Win + Z but that's not what I am asking. I want to see the snap layouts when I hover over the maximize button.

How can I change the Slack Windows 11 title bar to use the Windows default so I can view snap layouts

Hi! I’d recommend submitting a feature request to the Slack team if you haven’t already. The more people that ask for it, the more likely it is that they’ll add it in a future update! Hopefully, they’ll consider adding that native functionality down the road.

Hi everyone,

When I tried to export a list of whole members, some accounts missed in the list.

So I would like to know why I faced this problem and how to resolve it.

And one more thing, is it available to export a list all of members in workspace after filter(like only activated members, or only guests something like this)?

In the admin page, there's only a button for exporting whole members list.

Please anybody help me !

Is there a Slack community workspace that's open to the public? If so, what is the best way to express interest in getting an invite?
