#Account Merge0 discussing

The Classic version has a tool to merge contacts and accounts. This was super easy. The feature does not appear to be available in Lightning. Is there a way, in the Lightning version, to "easily" merge duplicate contacts and accounts?

I can't seem to find one. It's weird that it provides tools to find duplicates, but not to resolve them.

Hi Julie, honestly, I just gave up on this. It seems like such an important feature for maintaining your accounts and contacts, but Salesforce doesn’t seem to think so.

Yes it will allow you to. When merging you will select what info you are taking from each account (account fields) and all the related records will be transferred to the account you selected as your primary or source of truth

I'm currently having an issue with a trigger for a scheduled process on our Opportunity object. The trigger fires both before and after any updates to an opportunity, which causes a scheduled job to run and change the account type of the parent account 2 weeks later.

Ex. I create opportunity on 8/5/21 with the status as "In-Progress" and nothing happens with the opp. This starts our opportunity trigger. On 8/19/21, two weeks later, the scheduled job runs, finds my opportunity that hasn't been modified since 8/5, and changes the account type.

Recently, I noticed that merged accounts were triggering this process, as the opportunity in the accounts being re-parented count as updated, thus firing the Opportunity trigger on the day of the account merge. This is causing some accounts (leads or inactive clients) to revert to incorrect account types, which we need to avoid.

I was thinking of creating a field that would be automatically updated each time an account is merged, which I can then use in the scheduler as an exclusion, however, I am having trouble executing this. Setting the field manually is a last case scenario, as we have different users merging accounts. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can create a field (checkbox/text/picklist/etc.) on the Account object that updates if merged with another account?

Thank you. #Salesforce Developer #Apex #Apex Trigger #Accounts #Account Merge

I am trying to merge Accounts in Lightning.  According to the Help & Training article, when I click on an account record I should see a message telling me if duplicates exist with a link to View Duplicates.  I went on an account record where I know it is a duplicate, but I am not seeing a message.

What am I missing?

Mass Account Merge.

Please suggest a way to Merge multiple accounts at once. Right now I can compare max. 3 duplicate accounts at a time. But I have many duplicate accounts and each account may have more than 3 duplicates. Please suggest a way to handle this limit in Salesforce. I can't do this manually by searching for individual account, rather I would prefer data loader to complete this activity in one go or thru any free tool.

What has worked for me in the past is using data loader to move the data to a spread sheet and then use Excel tools to sort and merge the data. Then insert the merged records back into salesforce. This has many steps and take some planning butuding the Excel tools the data can be manipulated creating and replacing IDs into subordinate object reference ID's. If you trhink you want to explore this option further let me know.

I am trying to figure out how to merge accounts in SF Lightning.  Although SF provides an easy way to merge duplicate accounts (companies with the same name), they do not provide any explanation that I can find on how to merge accounts with different names.  Can this be done without manually creating a duplicate name for two accounts in order for the automated system to identify a duplicate?

Or you could put the name that you'd like the accounts to end up with, and enter a note as to what the name was...

We have many account page layouts of which not all the account fields are displayed.  In classic, when an account is merged, only the fields that user has access to will be merged otherwise, the data is lost.  Hence, as an admin, who can see all account fields, is the only person who should be merging accounts.  Is this classic rule still enforced in the Duplication feature in Lightning?

Thanks for your feedback Julie, it's a good point. The deletion part of how merge works is longstanding/unchanged in Lightning, but as described above I'm happy that Lightning has found ways to enhance the transparency and customizability of the merge operation.
