Hi, has anyone used the Asset and Product objects to track assets (physical and financial) for their nonprofit? My org is wanting to do this now and looking into some potential solutions. I am still pretty new but figured this might be the thing to use, and can be customized for any additional needs. We would ideally want to track things like laptops and cellphones and be able to assign to specific individuals who has it at any given moment. We were hoping to use some sort of barcode/scanner software so that we can check in and out physical items quickly and easily without manual entry each time and updates info in Salesforce. Is there an app in the appexchange that people recommend? Additionally, finance team would want to be able to transfer some of the data, like the fixed financial assets to their finance system, Financial Edge NXT. is there an integration there as well? Thanks for any advice or other suggestions around this.

For the laptops and cellphones part, ITAM App is a native package built for this: assign devices to individuals, see who holds what right now, and keep the history when they move. Staff don't need Salesforce licences. The free plan covers 20 owners and 100 assets with no time limit. To be upfront about the other two points, there's no prebuilt Financial Edge NXT connector, so that would be an API build, and data comes in by CSV or API rather than discovery. Disclosure: I'm one of the makers. https://anyityapp.com/ITAM_App

Hi there, we'd like to be able to track assets like technology and other purchases used internally i.e. not for sale. We'd like to record things like purchase date, serial numbers, and the vendor.

It seems that the Assets object isn't used for this kind of record keeping.

Is there a best practice, app you use, or solution for a place to house this information?

It depends on the complexity of the data you are wanting to store.  If this is simply a case of storing the Asset with a Purchase Date, Invoice No., Supplier, Value etc., then creating your own Custom Object(s) would be the easiest solution.  If you have a more complex scenario, bordering on Accounting, an App like this that has a Discount for Non-Profits might help: https://appexchange.salesforce.com/appxListingDetail?listingId=a0N30000004czBREAY

I had consultants tell me that it's better to close one recurring gift and open a new one when a sustaining donor increases their commitment. I can't remember why and it doesn't make sense to me.

Anyone know why they would tell me that the best practice, industry norm is close one and open another instead of just adjusting the existing recurring gift up...

From a Salesforce perspective, closing an existing recurring donation to create a brand-new one is an outdated workaround from legacy systems.

When working within the Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP), especially utilizing Enhanced Recurring Donations, the platform is specifically designed to handle updates dynamically. Editing the existing installment amount and setting an effective date preserves the unbroken relationship history, maintains clean roll-up summaries, and avoids orphaned child opportunities without breaking payment tokens or schedules.

For organizations on Nonprofit Cloud, the architecture shifts to standard objects like Gift Commitments and Gift Transactions. Rather than recreating records, you manage increases directly on the active commitment record, ensuring longitudinal reporting stays intact and sparing donors or staff from unnecessary administrative friction.

Hello everyone! 👋

I’m looking for opportunities to contribute my skills as a Salesforce Administrator volunteer while gaining practical, real-world experience.

I’d love to support nonprofits, charities, or small organizations with Salesforce setup, data management, user support, reports, dashboards, and other administrative tasks.

I’m currently seeking volunteer opportunities only (unpaid) and would welcome the chance to learn, contribute, and make a positive impact through Salesforce.

If you know of any organizations that could use volunteer Salesforce support, or if your team needs an extra hand, I’d be grateful to connect.

Thank you for your time and support! 🙏

Hi Everyone,

I am running into a issue that I don't know where to start to diagnose. At our organization we utilize both Kindsight iWave Automatic scoring to score any opportunity that comes into our instance that is over $100 and 999 days since their last scoring or if they haven't been scored at all.

GoFundMePro is our payment portal for users to make donations and sync right into our Salesforce instance. The main issue we are facing is that the managed flow or package that triggers the scoring would fail when GoFundMePro related gifts gets synced in.

Is there any solution or workaround so I can continue have this automation work in order?

This typically occurs because the automated scoring package or managed flow tries to execute synchronously on newly inserted Opportunity or Contact records simultaneously with the GoFundMePro data sync. When high-volume or third-party payment integrations push records into your instance, the sudden influx of DML operations can cause lock contention or trigger depth limits, causing the scoring flow or trigger to fail before it can evaluate the $100 and 999-day threshold criteria.

To resolve this, you should refactor or transition the scoring logic into an asynchronous process, such as a Queueable Apex job or a scheduled batch process, rather than letting it fire on immediate after-insert triggers from the payment portal. This decouples the GoFundMePro gift ingestion from the resource-intensive iWave scoring callouts, ensuring the donations sync cleanly first without being blocked by subsequent processing errors.

Additionally, review the error logs in your Setup under Apex Exceptions or Process Automation Failures to identify the exact failing element. Adding explicit null checks and bulkified try-catch blocks within your wrapper handler will also prevent third-party integrations from stalling when missing secondary related fields during creation.

Hi, everyone! PayPal is set up as a payment option in #Classy App with #NPSP, and I confirmed I can see this payment method on a donation page.

However, when someone pays via Paypal, that data is not flowing into Salesforce similar to Stripe transactions. Are there additional settings or gotchas to be aware of? We also have GoFundMePay. Thank you!

I have found Classy’s documentation and customer support to be amazing, so I would put in a ticket request to them. They can definitely point you in the right direction.

Hello everyone. I guess I might get different answers from you, because we all have our preferences between Microsoft and Google products. Nevertheless, I would like to have your sincere opinion taking into account the situation that I describe below. Our NGO started with Salesforce NPSP a little over a year ago. But using it only as a database to record donors and donations.

I started there 8 months ago with the mission of transforming this database into a real CRM. We have a small team in Belgium (10), and many collaborators in Africa. At the beginning of this year, we should start the SF integration process with email products, calendars, etc.

Although they initially opted for Office 365, this decision can be completely questioned. The important thing is that our collaborators start using SF in a natural way and that it becomes the tool they love (User adoption).

Like any NGO, our resources are quite limited because they are all invested in our missions in Africa. The majority of our employees use a screen, rather than a smartphone. With their emails, agenda, tasks in Office 365, and another tab with their SF access. Having SF integrated directly into their "Office" screen would be a positive revolution for them. With the ability to send emails from their email program, use their calendar, create tasks, but also create Leads, Opportunities, Contacts, etc. And to easily find Contacts/Account/Opportunity.. informations on the same screen (A column on the right of the screen). You will tell me that it is quite classic, and that both Microsoft and Google integration can meet these needs. The question I ask myself (I am a consultant and have various certifications such as Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, NPSP, Communities, B2B..) concerns the ease for us to achieve this integration and manage it internally without having to, in permanent, call on an external partner.

- Microsoft or Google? - Easy integration that I could achieve.... or Paid package of Appexchange?

In addition to what we have already talked about as a use, are there not advantages to using this or that product ?

- Such as the possibility of sharing and working with several people, at the same time, on online documents? (tables, letters, etc.),

- Have a whiteboard for our meetings, a tool to create internal technical or generic documentation (which is constantly evolving) that is NOT simple PDFs but real WIKIs/FAQs. .. Currently I use OneNote, but it's quite limited in layout while Wiki (MS) does not contain full text search...

And finally, the price is important, and the ability to maintain this on our own.

In your opinion, which solution should I turn to?

Thank you for your advice, it will be very useful to me.

    Hi,

good question, and you'll get both sides arguing. I'm going to stick to what's relevant to your situation: small team, limited budget, no permanent partner, and adoption as the sole goal.

The Salesforce side is closer than it appears

Both platforms offer a 'Salesforce inside my inbox' type view - a pane showing contact/account/opportunity info for the emails you're opening, logging emails, and creating records from the mail window. Outlook has the Outlook integration, and Gmail the Gmail integration. Both can be set up per your admin's clicks and don't usually require a paid AppExchange package. Check your edition as it'll depend on your licences. Most people fall into the trap of thinking that one is easier, and find the real work comes in permissions, fields mapping and training, not on the connector.

    A free method to test

Run both integrations in a sandbox with 3-5 users for two weeks (free trials for both platforms, sandbox for Salesforce).

Include at least a couple of your Africa-based collaborators. Connectivity and old PCs usually define adoption more than features do.

Test the daily flows: send and log an email, create a task, create a lead from the side panel, find a contact quickly.

Compare the admin work. Ask yourself who's going to maintain this when you're unavailable?

    On the collaboration questions

Co-editing: Both can do real-time editing well, but Google Docs and Sheets feel quicker on a browser, which may be a consideration on poor bandwidths. The Office web apps are okay but desktop and web can be different beasts.

Whiteboard: Microsoft has it built in. Google's Jamboard is retired, so check if Google has any recommendations before relying on it.

Wiki/FAQ: Neither are very good out the box. On the Microsoft side, SharePoint pages or Loop are better options for evolving documentation than OneNote. On Google, Sites plus Docs (and Drive search) is simple and has good search.

Price: Both vendors have nonprofit programmes, and terms often change, so ask both for current eligibility and discounts.

    Common mistakes people make

Picking on feature sets and not running a pilot, and adopting the wrong tool as a result.

Opening up email and calendar sync for everyone without thinking through what ends up in Salesforce.

Not taking shared mailboxes, calendar permissions, and aliases into account when switching platforms.

Switching MX records before mailboxes have been migrated so new mail ends up in the wrong place.

Cancelling the old licences before data has been verified and moved.

My honest opinion is that if your people spend their time in the browser, are distributed, and want something they can host themselves, Google will usually be the lighter option. If your team needs to use desktop Office apps, or has Microsoft grants, it's perfectly reasonable to stick where you are. Adoption beats feature lists either way.

If you do adopt Google, the

Kernel Office 365 to Google Workspace

Migration Tool can migrate mailboxes, calendars, contacts, and OneDrive in bulk with user mapping, and has a free trial where you can try a small batch first.

Hope that helps, and am happy to go deeper into the Outlook vs Gmail side-panel setup if it's useful.

PMM Bulk Service Delivery by Group drop down list showing recently viewed including services with inactive status.

When using Bulk Service Deliveries by Group in PMM the field to pick a service is showing a list titled "Recently Viewed" which contains services with inactive status. The same happens when searching in the field. Services labeled 2025 are showing as available to select. I have tried activating the BSDT and making sure there is only one status that is considered active for Services. What am I missing? Is there a way to show only Services with Active status in the Bulk Services Delivery by Group pop up field for Service?

@Asim Ansari Thank you for your answer. It looks like the PMM Service Delivery, Service look up field does not allow you to edit the filter of this managed package.

I'm using NPSP, for the record, and do not have payment allocations enabled. I'll need to be able to filter for close date/ payment date as well, but don't think that'll be an issue. Would love any tips, will do whatever to be able to get the results I need!    Previous attempts:   I've tried "Opportunities w/ Payments and GAUs", but consistently run into an issue (regardless of whether I'm using cross filters/ whether I include a "does not equal "" " filter where GAUs populate as blank, despite very much existing). Based on very generous suggestions from an earlier thread, I tried to begin with "GAU Opportunities with Payment" (and "GAU Opportunities with Opportunity"), but in both cases could not add the fields I needed for the other (close date and payment date, respectively). It seems that the issue is due to the whole with/ without thing, and so I tried to make a custom report, but cannot seem to create a report type that allows me a sufficient degree of flexibility.

@Ryan McCracken those blank GAU rows are the join, not bad data. A payment and a GAU allocation are both children of the opportunity. A custom report type can walk down one of those, not both. That is why one type has close date and the GAU, and the other has payment date, and the combined type shows a blank GAU.

Campaign is on the opportunity, so that half is easy. Opportunities with Payments, filter Campaign, Close Date, and Payment Date.

For a GAU, use Opportunities with GAU Allocations and filter the GAU plus Close Date. Payment Date will not be on that report. A joined report can sit the two side by side on Opportunity Id, and the amounts will repeat when one opportunity has several payments and several allocations.

If you need one row that is a payment, a GAU, and a payment date, that is what Payment Allocations are for. Without them, NPSP never stored which payment funded which GAU.
