Hi Automotive Cloud community,
I am learning the basics about Automotive Cloud.
When you create an asset you don't see any possibility to attach a vehicle on the layout. Even if I added the field Vehicle on the Asset page layout, it is not being displayed on the Asset record I just created. If a review the record page, the field Vehicle is there but as read only. .If I check the FLS on the field Vehicle on the Asset object, it appears as editable or visible. That is a weird thing.
Besides, I see that first when I go to the Vehicle record I want to associate with the Asset record I created, and associate the asset I created on that Vehicle page layout, the vehicle gets associated with the asset I created on the Asset page layout.
Can please somebody explain to me this weird behavior?.
This behavior is actually related to how Automotive Cloud handles object relationships between Vehicle and Asset records. In many cases, the Vehicle lookup on Asset is controlled by the data model configuration rather than just page layout or FLS, which is why it shows as read-only on the Asset side.
The association is often intended to be created from the Vehicle record first, which then propagates the relationship back to the Asset—this is why you’re seeing it work in that direction.
If you’re working on vehicle data management or need to validate vehicle records (like accident history or related info in real-world use cases), this tool might also help in practical scenarios:
