Resources from the AMER Ask Me Anything (AMA) Session from May 15, 2024

Here are some of the resources shared as part of the live AMER Ask Me Anything Session

THANK YOU to our lead @Rob OBrien and our hosts today @Melissa Hill Dees @Bill Florio who handled a TON of questions - it was a great conversation as usual, the hour flew by!

These live AMAs are not recorded to allow for open, honest conversations. Here are some written follow-up resources, as promised!

Wondering about best practices with API connections using OAuth to Salesforce. With the rise of AI directions readily available, worried about users potentially sending data to our Salesforce org without the proper understanding of backend issues that may arise. If that’s a concern are there additional backend settings we should be using to monitor and or prevent our users from sending information to Salesforce if they do not need to?

We are currently working on an income attribution project. We have several departments that tend to fight over income and currently they are attributed income based on a "Cost Center" which is a field on Campaign that maps to opportunities which is a very flat way of looking at opportunities. We are looking at using a series of attributes to determine attribution. I have proposed to our consultant (Non-Salesforce) using campaigns as the driver, however I was curious what best practices might be or what other orgs are utilizing.

My Question: How to add attendance of our students using QR code and update that info back to Salesforce. Also maintain integrity of that attendace. Our current structure is instructors take student rosters and tehn staff updatr that information in Salesforce. I want to automate this process to ease staff time.

We are looking for a way to send emails in bulk as well as customized attachments as well. We’re preparing for a conference, but it might be similar to other commonly used cases such as sending out personalized tax forms in the beginning of year or invoices at once. Is there any apps you recommend using for this?

  • Apsona is an ISV app and this is their speciality
  • See the demo link: https://www.apsona.com/demos
  • Could also go a flow route but there’s a lot of limitations and learning curve; there are other solutions but just know going scrappy will cost you in time.

We are using Non-Profit Cloud Case/Program Management and NPSP. How do we seperate donor accounts from participant client accounts?

  • Bill said he'd do it like this: have a summary field to show they have participated any number of times and then see who the participants are and then seperate them as some in theory will overlap
  • Why are you worried the data will overlap or whats the challenge?
  • Overall message from the hosts - this is totally normal that this data lives under the same place.

Question about how to develop or link an online registration page using Salesforce? We want to consolidate our various event registrations and hoping we can build that with SF so users automatically get added into SF or linked to an existing contact

  • Advise from the hosts: either use Formstack or Formassembly
  • It depends on what the person needs to do
  • there are cheaper ways but you will pay in sweat
  • sf.llamasite.com
  • jotform may be less exepnsive but will cost in 'sweat hours' aka may be a burden/time consuming

Can we get some more detail about the address and email management functionality coming out in Summer '24? I saw the updates about managing multiple physical addresses, but was wondering about whether there would be anything for managing multiple email addresses? in NPC.

Would love to hear how nonprofit orgs have dealt with the soft-crediting of donors using NPSP. Example, DAFs, family foundations, etc.

  • Each team has a different idea of crediting
  • NPSP has the tools to do this, but I dont think there's a best practice
  • Salesforce Ben Article on DAFS, etc:
  • donor stweardship is critical
  • dtaa management is important too

Are there any guidelines/recommendations on discovery approach for someone implementing the new NPC for the first time?

Callouts from the hosts!

Final thoughts:

  • Join a local user group near you! https://trailblazercommunitygroups.com
  • Join another Nonprofit AMA session, these are monthly! Figuring out details next month as I'll be OOO after the London sprint so the existing date will likely change... stay tuned!

Thanks again to our hosts and everyone who attended! Hope to see you all again at a future session, see links in the group sidebar or above^ woo!
