DEV450: Programmatic Development

Join us for ongoing discussions around the official Salesforce training course "DEV450: Programmatic Development using Apex and Visualforce" to continue your training experience beyond the classroom! Alumni can network with others in similar roles who are interested in the same topics. Current students can ask questions to the community of alumni and instructors. Future students can get a better idea if the course is right for them. All are welcome! Also, you can engage with K2 Partnering Solutions: http://k2partnering.com/

They are a recruiting agency that tracks all Salesforce Certified professionals and places them in Salesforce related jobs. We use them to staff some of our internal positions at Salesforce.

I have a co-worker who wants to go for her Platform Developer certification.  She does not have any prior Salesforce development experience but is a well seasoned PHP developer.  Any suggestions on how best to study/prepare for Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I?

Just to double check before I embark. I've got the following queued up to help me do the Developer I certification:

Building Applications with Force.com

&

Build the recruitment app

&

Dip through Trailhead

Sound about right?

Hi all, quick question from someone who never worked with visualforce pages before. We have a custom object (RFQ) where few fields need to be updated using code. These fields will be populated from the related list on Account (lookup) which is then used in RFQ record (lookup to Account).

Need to confirm the following:

  • Will it be the current page on RFQ record that will use the code to pull the data just for the fields we need, or will it be the whole page that needs to be replaced with a custom developed (VF) page?
  • Do you see any risks with using this VF approach keeping Lightning in mind as a future state?

Hi @Test Account, correct me if I am wrong, vf page is to display data from RFQ object, while trigger is use to store new data / updated data to RFQ object.

Hello,

Is there a way to reset/clear input fields values on a visualforce page after saving the record without writing a custom controller?

i.e. I have a VF populated with opportunity fields.

Thanks!

Hello! I recently added a blog post on how to replicate Master-Detail / Lookup relationship to the Opportunity Product object with Process Builder in conjunction with other components. Hope this helps with those who have come up with this request before as well, but had to find a workaround due to Opportunity Products not supporting custom child objects. Any feedback is much appreciated!

@DEV450: Programmatic Development @DEVOPS  (Deleted Group)  @Boston Developer Group @Incredible Developer  We are trying to create metaData and Update metaData based on the changes in Our System. We are using MetaData API for this.

Our managed package need OurNameSpace__ before each components. Our team did that with a Java app. Now i am blocked with the creation of dymamic components with the packageNameSpace.

We are using CRUD-Based Metadata Development for creating unmanaged fields.

For installed managed package, Can we do this with CRUD-Based Metadata Development?

I'm just poking around various bits of the Developer certification. What would you recommend going through in terms of materials.

Many say the fully fledged Recruitment Apex Application course does what you need end to end, but what about the stuff over on Trailhead?

Andres, that's a good point. Going back to my analogy, at the cocktail party, we have a wealth of people circulating through the room that we can talk to. Similarly, we can find a lot of Trailhead help from the community. That help might be analogous to cocktail party conversations as well: often brief and light.

Classroom teachers and the immediacy of their availability and depth of their knowledge is incredibly valuable, but I would say that recorded online courses offered by Salesforce University are also valuable despite the lack of a live instructor. I like that I can skip through those at my own pace and get just the information I most need from them while still getting the bigger picture of how things interact. And I like that those online courses are available whenever I need them most.

I applaud Salesforce for providing so many different tools for learning in many different styles because sometimes we just want nuggets of information that we pick and choose from at our own pace and sometimes we really want to be led step-by-step with a lot of guidance. Sometimes we expect to have a lot of questions and sometimes we just want to see how well we can get it on our own.

Good day all.

We have a client that is in the commercial construction business. Specifically, they offer cable-wiring and in-building network installations to Utilities, State Governments and Corporations. They have a possible need for an API or pre-built connector to their PSA/CPQ solution called Q360. Is anyone aware if such a connector exists or has anyone built an API that has connected Q360 to Salesforce?

Looking forward to hearing if anyone has a use-case or experience with this scenario.

Thanks :-)
