Subject: Data 360 Calculated Insight Shows “No Data Model Nodes”
Issue Description
I am facing an issue while creating a Calculated Insight in Salesforce Data 360.
When I open the Calculated Insight configuration and try to select or add the required data model nodes, the system displays “No Data Model Nodes”. Because of this, I am unable to select the required Data Model Objects (DMOs) and continue configuring the Calculated Insight.
Expected Behavior
When creating a Calculated Insight, the available Data Model Objects/Data Model Nodes should be displayed so that I can select the required objects and configure the Calculated Insight.
Actual Behavior
The Calculated Insight configuration shows:
“No Data Model Nodes”
No Data Model Nodes/objects are available for selection, preventing me from proceeding with the Calculated Insight configuration.
Steps to Reproduce
- Log in to the Salesforce org.
- Navigate to Data 360 / Data Cloud.
- Navigate to Calculated Insights.
- Create a new Calculated Insight.
- Open the Calculated Insight configuration.
- Attempt to select/add a Data Model Node.
- The system displays “No Data Model Nodes” and no Data Model Objects are available.
Impact
I am unable to create or configure the required Calculated Insight because the required Data Model Nodes are not available in the Calculated Insight builder.
Request
Please investigate why the Data Model Nodes are not being displayed in the Calculated Insight builder.
Please confirm whether this is related to:
- Data Model Object availability or configuration
- Data Stream/Data Mapping configuration
- Data 360 permissions or user access
- Data Model Node eligibility for Calculated Insights
- Data 360 setup or synchronization
- A Salesforce platform/product issue
Please provide the recommended steps to make the required Data Model Nodes available in the Calculated Insight builder.
Evidence
I can provide screenshots of the Calculated Insight page showing the “No Data Model Nodes”
message, along with the relevant Data 360 configuration and Data Model Object details.
#Trailhead Challenges
Hi gollakoti, this is almost always one of two things: no data has been mapped into a DMO yet, or the wrong Data Space is selected — not a platform bug.
How the Calculated Insight builder decides what to show: it only lists Data Model Objects (DMOs) that are (1) part of the Data Space you've selected for the calculated insight, and (2) actually have data mapped to them (a DLO-to-DMO field mapping exists). If neither condition is met, the node picker is empty — "No Data Model Nodes" is exactly what you'd expect in that state, it's not hiding anything.
Most likely causes, in order of likelihood:
1. Data streams/mapping haven't been completed yet. Calculated Insights sit downstream of Data Streams > Data Mapping in the Data 360 workflow. If you jumped straight to Calculated Insights without first creating a data stream and mapping its fields to a DMO (Data Streams tab > your stream > Data Mapping section), there are no populated DMOs yet for the builder to show. Go back and confirm at least one data stream is deployed and mapped.
2. Wrong Data Space selected. When creating the Calculated Insight, check the Data Space dropdown at the top. Only DMOs included in that specific Data Space are shown — if your mapped data lives in "Default" but you picked a different (empty) Data Space, you'll see nothing.
3. Permission/access issue. If your user doesn't have access to that particular Data Space (Data Space access is permission-set scoped), the objects won't appear even if they exist. Check with your Trailhead playground admin equivalent — or if this is your own playground, confirm you're using the recommended Data 360 playground for this specific module rather than a generic Developer Edition org.
4. Wrong org/playground entirely. If this is a Trailhead challenge, double check you're in the specific custom playground created for that module — a plain Developer Edition or a playground from a different badge won't have Data 360 enabled/configured the same way, and Calculated Insights won't have anything to point to.
Recommended steps:
- Go to Data Streams tab, confirm at least one stream shows Active/deployed status
- Open that stream > Data Mapping > confirm fields are actually mapped to a DMO (not just deployed)
- In the Calculated Insight builder, check the Data Space dropdown matches where your mapped DMO lives
- Retry adding the Data Model Node
