error updating data type of a custom text field to picklist

Hi everyone. I'm currently updating a custom field in FSC from a text data type to a picklist and ran into this error after clicking save.

Validation Errors While Saving Record(s)

There were custom validation error(s) encountered while saving the affected record(s). The first validation error encountered was "Unsupported custom field type conversion attempted.".

Does anyone know how to fix this error? I did check the field depencies and saw that it was being used by an APEX class. Could this be one of the reason that it is erroring out? I'm pretty new in SF and thought this would be any easy change, but its more complicated than I thought. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Try And Check If It It Is Used In Process Builder Or Validation  Rule Or Formula Field And In Apex Also

    That Could Also Be the Reason For This Error
