Hello! I am trying to get a better understanding of the data model around Producers, Agents, Contacts, Carriers, Licenses etc.
I have gone through this trail, but do not completely understand it. Specifically:
1. How are you linking Agent to their Agency?
2. How are you recording the states an agent is licensed for?
3. How are you recording which insurance/carrier they might sell for?
4. What specifically is the use of Producer in the data model? Seems to be a junction object linking agents to the InsurancePolicy?
5. Business Licenses, Authorized Lines, Distributer Authorization - anyone have further documentation on this beyond trailhead and the dev guides?
Much thanks in advance!
Agents are typically modeled as Contacts or Person Accounts that link directly to an Account representing their parent Agency or Brokerage using standard Account-Contact relationships, affiliations, or custom bridge objects.
State-level licenses are tracked using the Producer or Business License object, where each record captures specific state jurisdictions, license numbers, and expiration dates tied to the individual or agency.
Insurance carriers and authorized product lines are mapped using Distributor Authorization or Carrier Appointment junction records that link producers and agencies to specific insurance companies they are authorized to sell for.
The Producer object in the data model primarily acts as a junction or intermediary entity connecting individual agents and brokerages to policies, carrier appointments, and regulatory licensing tracking records.
Beyond Trailhead and developer guides, further documentation can be found in the official Financial Services Cloud implementation guides, the Enterprise Architecture data dictionary, and specialized Salesforce Accelerator resources covering insurance extensions.
