Zurich User Group Meeting October 4th 23

Great face-to-face #usergroup meeting!

Thanks again to all participants and speakers who provided their slides in the attached files!

My most important takeaways:

1: Implement a solid BI tool foundation on proven architecture allows to grow projects to scale (Merkle talk attached: "20231004 Merkle..")

2: Know your tools inside out to develop with highest impact on actionable visualization - even with tables as asked by clients. (see attached workbook by Klaus "Tables_presented")

You also find the slides of my pecha kucha style presentation on Design Thinking.

Many thanks for the great and humble Klaus Schulte for making me love tables and create them insightful and actionable!

Thanks Stéphane Bertrand and David Raber from Merkle DACH for your architecture and project insights and for being such great hosts for us at your site!

And thanks for every TUG Zurich member showing up to make the ⌗datafam meeting as inspiring as it was!

Join this session to hear how we established a Tableau Center of Excellence and promoting self-service analytics with Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server and Portals

Presenter: Rolf Crisovan – Tableau Expert/Data Scientist at Bank Vontobel

* Abstract - Clear and Presentation Danger

Andy is answering the question: "How to make charts for meetings and presentations". He explains what type of charts are working on big screens and how to enhance nice, existing dashboards supporting your messages when you present in a meeting.

This is sort of a preview to the TC18 - Andy will give us his TC18 talk live in Zurich - how great! (it replaces the originally scheduled talk "How do you visualize time?") .

Presenter: Andy Cotgreave, Technical Evangelism Director, Tableau

Hi all,

another very interesting evening with great speakers has taken place! Read about the stories, follow the links to a short video by Andy Cotgreave (Tableau Evangelist) and to the presentation from Rolf Crisovan (Bank Vontobel) and enjoy the pictures from the event in this Album: https://adobe.ly/2pUYmmD.

TUG ZH Meeting at Bank Vontobel - October 11 2018

Andy Cotgreave presented bad examples and good solutions to cope with the challenges we all face when presenting Tableau dashboards in meetings.

We want to bring over key messages to meeting participants in short time and maybe with limited attention by some participants...

Can our dashboard which we have crafted with significant effort and lots of thinking do this in the short time we catch the attention of our audience?

Not sure...

But Andy shared easy to apply tips changing only little things to dashboards and the way we present and a common type of dashboard presents a story very well.

The presentation was a test drive of his TC18 talk "Clear and Presentation Danger"

Andy recorded a preview of the session and made it available on youtube: https://youtu.be/fV1Y047LzZg

Follow Andy on twitter @acotgreave

or visit his blog: GravyAnecdote – Wherein Andy pours stories about data onto the web

Thanks a lot Andy for sharing your energy on stage and some of your knowledge with us!

After a short break Rolf Crisovan presented "Vontobel’s Self-Service Analytics Roadtrip–Driving forward with Tableau Drive"

RolfCrisovan.jpg

Rolf walked us through the important steps of running Tableau as a service in your company.

Started as a part time journey of one person (Hanspeter Purtschert), the Tableau team at Bank Vontobel grew with Rolf Crisovan and Ruven Widmer.

They are not only managing the Tableau server platform, but are providing Tableau Desktop and education for users as well.

Consulting on how to create Dashboards as well as development of Dashboards for internal clients is also part of their offering.

The presentation can be followed here: TUG Zurich_Vontobel_2018-10-11.pdf

Rolf and his manager Hanspeter Purtschert had to answer many questions from the audience. It was good to see they are leading the way to Tableau in Vontobel as a strong team.

Vontobel_QuA.jpg

Many thanks to Bank Vontobel for hosting our event at their site and for organizing food and beverages to motivate for sharing experiences with Tableau among the participants.

Thanks to Andy for his great talk and Rolf to accepting the challenge of speaking after Andy (challenge managed very well!).

And to you - the participants paying us a visit and exchanging with all about their experiences.

We discussed topics and dates for the next TUG ZH event (see Agenda: null).

It will take place in January 2019 - please contact us if you like to host this or a following event at your site.

Greetings, Ueli
