We're trying to remove an old node out of the PROD cluster we have, and turn it into a Dev environment.

Should that node be removed from web UI first and then obliterate it with the script ? Before reinstalling Tableau server back ? It will not be rejoining the original PROD cluster.

Or can I just reinstall a new tableau server instance after removing it from the cluter's web UI ?

I was told that I should be able to install a Dev Tableau server with our license, but I wasn't too sure. Would I need a different license for a Dev server or can just use the license we have ?

Any experiences with this situation ?

Thank you!

    Hi @Bobo Oo ,

You will first need to remove the node from the cluster. Be sure to follow the instructions here:

https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/distrib_worker_remove.htm, otherwise you might break your production environment.

After that is done, you will need to obliterate the installation on the removed node and reinstall Tableau.

You can use the same license on the dev server, Tableau allows using 1 production environment and 2 non-production environments with the same license key.
