Hello all,
I have some questions regarding how Tableau Server (pn prem) connects to an Oracle database hosted by a 3rd party vendor.
We have tested Tableau Online with Oracle server on prem, Tableau Bridge is required. Also Tableau Online with Oracle on the cloud, Tableau Bridge is also required
We prefer not to have Tableau Bridge in our way, and the 3rd party vendor has not mentioned anything about the connection.
Current setup:
- both ORACLE database and Tableau server are on prem. Performance and uptime is good.
New project:
- migrating the ORACLE database onto Cloud (it will be upgraded to 12c database after migration), hosted by the application vendor as the reporting database for the application.
- Tableau is upgrading to 2019.2.x but will stay on prem
Question:
1) with the new project > on prem Tableau Server connecting to a cloud database, does it need to have Tableau Bridge in place for extract refresh ?
2) Does anyone have this setup before, how does the performance look? Slower or faster or the same ?
Thanks,
Alisa
Correct. Depending on how your hosting provider has set things up it may be more or less complicated to connect to Oracle but there is no additional software on the Tableau side required to make it happen.
