Good evening all,

I work for a school district in NJ.  We used the PARCC assessment for 4 years and used a “NEW” assessment this past year called NJSLA (Still PARCC just a different name IMO).

I am trying to see if anyone on this group has created any dashboards to display/share data with their districts.

I have some nice sheets and one dashboard that is giving basic proficiency levels by year, school, grade level, and content area.  I have the typical demographic comparisons like free and reduced lunch, ethnicities, male/female, special ed, ELL, etc.

What I want to try to tackle now is getting more in depth with the data.  We have subclaims simply numbered as subclaim 1, 2, etc., but the file does not contain descriptions of what these are or mean.

I recently found an excel sheet from Washington DC that breaks that info down to explain what each sub claim means.

Right now I have a folder with individual files for each school year and have formed a union with another file that contains the staff data as it relates to the student scores.

What would be the best way to add this sub claim information to my current setup?  I want to be able to create a view that would give me the students, their score on the sub claim and what that sub claim means.

If it is helpful, I can attach a copy of that file as well as a packaged anonymized sample workbook that contains the data so you can better understand what I am saying.

I am a very inexperienced Tableau user and could use all the help I can get.  I have so many ideas in my head about what I want to see but am not 100% sure how to make those thoughts into reality.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I thank you all in advance!

    Hi Rick,

It sounds like what you may be looking for is more information on Tool Tips.  This is the Tableau function that provides more information when you hover over a data point or part of a graph or display.  For a simple start with tool tips take a look at these community pages or watch the video.

In the Renton School District (Washington) we use tooltips for a lot of dashboards to display subtests, results over time, and other student data information.  Since Tableau 10.5 there has also been the option for visual tool tips which can also be very helpful to add to your repertoire as you move up in skill and practice.
