Here is the recap of our March 11, 2026 AMER AMA! Special shoutout to our March panelists @Stephanie Rebain and @Ryan Larimore, and as always our AMER AMA co-host @Rob O'Brien

Q: Question about Fundraising reporting! Just brought philanthropy in house…

A: Building a custom field is your best route. If a participant creates a custom field, depending on the platform, you can create flows to populate needed items. There is not a “standard” way to do it.

There isn’t really a standard business practice for it. Once your Org decides, it is a matter of reinforcing you are always reporting in the same way, it has to be able to replicated easily

Another attendee says “In my experience, I actually would log the fee as a separate Opportunity (in NPSP at least) since the fee (even covered by the donor) is technically NOT a donation to you because that fee is going to be going out the door regardless to the donation platform”

Q: What can you tell us about the recent SF email subj: "Immediate Action Required: Verify Your Domains for Email Security"

A:

An attendee said they had a similar experience with a client and it’s worth doing even if you aren’t sure, it’s not a huge deal to set up the DKIM.. the hardest part is logging into your DNS, then going back to Salesforce and activating. Updating your DNS usually also has product specific guides on how to update

Usually your Salesforce admin is not always the person who would update the DNS which could be a potential challenge, coordination is your friend.

An attendee said, “This

article helped me a lot with the step-by-step in Salesforce. Again the trickiest part is coordinating to update the DNS records”

Another attendee said, “I helped a few clients with this.  The articles make it sound complicated.  The shorter steps:  Go to Settings > DKIM Keys, click create and use sf1, sf2 as the selector and save.  Then click into the DKIM Key and there will be CNAME Records details.  Pass these along to anyone that manages the DNS for your domain.  After the CNAME entries are available, the Activate button will be available (not grayed out).”

“Here's a good article on Salesforce Ben.  There are some screenshots with how to enter the CNAME here:

Q: I have a question about the System Admin Profile and the migration of Profiles to Permission sets...I think I know the answer though..

A:

It’s a little easier on a forward moving basis. Key Consideration:  System Admin Profile: While other profiles are being minimized, the System Administrator profile often remains as a base, with additional specific permissions handled via permission sets for easier maintenance.

Q: What is the best ticketing system for small to mid organizations. We do use cases but only manually enter features that need to be developed. Is everyone using Email to Case automations?

A: Ticketing Systems - the First step to a superior customer experience:

https://www.salesforce.com/ap/hub/service/why-use-open-source-ticketing-system/

We develop a custom object to manage your constituency. Many clients use cases to manage the internal requests, it’s painful because you have to force yourself to have an auto reply. The dedication is difficult as an admin you have to enforce continually to tell clients to use the proper method. Use a screen flow for “Request”

An attendee said, “You may want to consider Web-to-Case... this allows you, the admin, to ask the right questions, capture the right info, and manage these Cases more easily. If you let them email, you'll have to go back and code the Cases for sorting, triage, assignment. I started with Email-to-Case and really wish I could get them on Web-to-Case”

Another attendee said, “I extensively use Asana for managing internal requests, especially their forms functionality for ticket intake and they Also use for working with clients who have requests as well”

Another attendee said, “I use an “Enhancements” app & custom object to track requests like this. You can potentially set up a screen flow to gather details and create a new Enhancement, but here is a demo of the kind of custom object you could create https://redpathcg.com/on-demand-webinar-enhancement-manager-salesforce_demo/

Q: I work for a non-profit involved in tree planting and various projects related to sustainability/environment. We want to set up a system to track donors, stakeholders, and projects. We'd like to have an overview which can provide automated deadlines and alerts. What kind of salesforce tools might be best used for setting up such a system?

A: Sounds like they don’t have a CRM. What you need specifically depends of course (NPSP or AFNP - what makes sense for your org) Look into Salesforce Power of Us:

https://www.salesforce.com/company/power-of-us/ and You may also want to explore the “Free Like a Puppy” resource, which helps nonprofits evaluate Salesforce implementation considerations.

Within the salesforce ecosystem there is additions, the beauty of it is you can take and develop the parts of the ecosystem to fit your orgs’ needs. Here is a link to the Rich Text component that you can use in a flow https://unofficialsf.com/nick-sauer-adds-smart-word-processing-features-to-rich-text-input/

"Search old names, see rename timelines." NPSP engagement plans could be a good option for automated deadlines and alerts"

Q: Curious how you handle basic SF dashboard + report folder naming and, eventually, archiving that material (e.g., for annual YTD data).  Thanks!

A: For screenshots - There’s an unofficial app that allow you to mimic a rich text field Basecamp:  Check out - Focus on Force: Managing Salesforce Projects
