We are new to NPC (NonProfit Cloud).  There is an object for Referrals that seems to have some non=standard functionality.  For example, there is a Type field defined as Picklist.  But there does not appear to be a way to add or modify values for the picklist values.

In addition, Referral Type is not required to be on a page layout, yet there is a validation rule that requires a value in the Referral Type.  There are no Validation Rules listed for the Referral object.

I am trying to find out (1) how Referral Type is used (and therefore why it is required), (2) where these validation rules live, and (3) how to add values to the picklist (assuming this field is actually required).

Thank you

I got this answer from another source:

    The

    Referral Type

field is a managed field within Nonprofit Cloud (NPC) and cannot be modified.

    1. Why is “Referral Type” showing as required even though it’s not on the page layout?

This requirement is being enforced by the managed package itself, not by a custom validation rule or page layout. Some fields in managed packages are marked as required at the system level, which means Salesforce won’t allow the record to save unless that field has a value—even if it’s not visible on the page.

    2. Can we add new values to the “Referral Type” picklist?

Unfortunately, because this is a managed field that comes from the package, its values are locked and cannot be changed. This is standard for many managed packages to maintain consistency in their internal processes.

    3. What does this mean for new record types?

If you add a new record type, you’ll still need to assign one of the existing Referral Type values (Inbound, Outbound, or Internal) because those are the only options allowed by the package. If the current values don’t fully meet your needs, we can create an additional custom field to track more specific classifications.

I sure wish there was documentation from Salesforce on these managed package fields.
