How do you qualify/score donors? Or how do you identify "Quality Donors"? within the contacts or accounts in Salesforce?

Particularly, what measures do you take to identify which of our constituents or previous donors are likely to donate again?

Do you score based on previous gift activity, newsletter subscription, event attendance? what drives the "Score"? what makes a donor "qualify"?

I would appreciate any thoughts

This would probably depend upon your organization's funding goals, and the type of funding you have.

    1. If you are talking regular donations then we have usually setup a Monthly Recurring Revenue MRR metric

    2. Otherwise the donations are likely either a single one time or perhaps measured by Annual Recurring Revenue.

    3. I might argue that  scores are specific and unique to each non-profit.

    4. On a different aspect when we do a lot of Google Analytics setup, there is the issue of "attribution" or which set of activities we have found to generate the sale or donation. Usually there is a process of getting a name, then qualifying that person and then time in the pipeline until they get enough newsletters or phone calls to be interested in donating.

    That being said.

    Key Scoring Components:

    • Giving History: Recency, frequency, and monetary value of donations
    • Engagement Level: Event attendance, email opens, website visits
    • Demographic Indicators: Age, income bracket, philanthropic interests
    • Relationship Depth: Years of involvement, volunteer history
    • External Wealth Markers: Property ownership, business affiliations

    Implementation in Salesforce:

    1. Create custom fields for scoring factors
    2. Build a weighted scoring formula:

    CopyTotal Score =

    (Giving History × 0.4) +

    (Engagement × 0.25) +

    (Demographics × 0.15) +

    (Relationship × 0.15) +

    (Wealth Indicators × 0.05)

    Qualifying Metrics:

    • RFM Analysis (Recency, Frequency, Monetary)
    • Engagement Rate = (Total Interactions / Opportunities for Interaction)
    • Donor Lifetime Value = Total Giving / Years Active
    • Loyalty Score = Consecutive Years of Giving

    Automation Tips:

    • Set up automatic score updates based on interactions
    • Create segmentation based on score ranges
    • Trigger different cultivation strategies per segment
    • Schedule regular score recalculation
