Pitfalls with filter logic and report types.

I am building a weekly opportunity report with different criteria for different types of opps. I tried the standard Opportunities with Payments report type. I am using complex filter logic because some opps need to be included based on the close date, and others based on the GL post date. 

Since some opps have multiple payments, I want to use the GL post date on the payment record for the report. However, not all the opps have payment records (some are in-kind gifts), and when I filter by the Payment GL Post date, it excludes all the in-kind gifts, even though that part of the filter logic doesn't apply to them. They do match the logic for close date (2 AND NOT 4 AND NOT 6 AND 8), so why are they being excluded? This is what my filters look like:I tried using a different report type, and discovered if the report is Opps with or without Payments, I cannot use OR in my filter logic! I'd never encountered that before. 

How do I solve this?
