Starting in July 2024, retention features are supported in the core platform based Privacy Center app. This update introduces a new Hyperforce based retention store, support for testing retention in your sandboxes, and introduces the option for masking data as it’s being retained.

The Hyperforce based retention store can be provisioned by using the core based Privacy Center app. This change no longer requires Heroku, which was previously used as a retention store. It also doesn’t require the use of the Privacy Center managed package.

The new retention capability will be a staged rollout across regions, with the initial regions at launch being Germany, Australia, and America East. Once it’s rolled out in your region, you can spin up a retention store. Details about the phased rollout are updated in Privacy Center’s Hyperforce Based Retention Store FAQ.

What action do I need to take?

If you’re currently using the Data Retention Policies functionality in the managed package to mask or delete data, review the new capabilities and recreate your data retention policies manually by using the Data Management tile on the new Privacy Center app.

If you’re already using the new re-architected Privacy Policies to mask or delete data (without retention), you see a new step in the policy wizard where you can select which fields to retain in the retention store. The new page doesn’t affect existing policy executions. To retain data in a retention store, update existing policies or create new ones to determine which data to retain.

If you’re retaining data in Heroku via Privacy Center policies and want to move it to the new Hyperforce based retention store, fill out this assistance request form. The Salesforce product team can work with you and your account team to facilitate the data transfer.

What if I don’t take any action?

You can continue to use the managed package version, also now known as the legacy Privacy Center app, for data retention. However, this version will no longer be enhanced and is now in maintenance mode. You can continue to use Heroku for managing data retention policies until the end of your contract.
