Using a Proxy with an HTTP Request Callout

Question

I have a HTTP request that has been moved behind a proxy to lock the request/response into a corporate network only.

Previously the HTTP request was using a named credential with a username & password. The API developers have moved this to a non-authenticated URL but behind a proxy.

How would I go about including a Proxy value in an Apex HTTP request?

The API developers I am working with are using curl with the proxy set, but that isn't possible within Apex.
