Dear Friends:
Many folks in this ecosystem know I was a foster parent for many years and have parented children who have encountered significant trauma -- including separation from their families of origin. Believe me when I say this trauma cuts deep and never goes away.
I realize we may not all share the same political inclinations, but I would like to invite those who share my concerns about the treatment of immigrant children who are being separated from their families to break the silence.
- Learn about organizations on the ground doing the good work most of us are not equipped to do and donate to them generously. (https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/06/how-you-can-fight-family-separation-at-the-border.html)
- Ask immigrants in your local community to share their stories and amplify their voices.
- Use your voice and influence to speak up. (My Medium article that will probably lose me many friends here: https://medium.com/@angelaadams_29657/cant-quit-thinking-about-kids-in-cages-f045f9da3b98)
- Join me on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the remainder of June at 8:55am Central for five minutes of meditation. All are welcome. (https://nowitmatters.zoom.us/my/angelaadams)
- Contribute your suggestions for resisting the trauma involuntary separation inflicts.
Martin Luther King, Jr. once said "Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
Change will not happen overnight, but let us together hold hope that this injustice will not continue much longer.
