I did so as well, though Still I cannot see anything in my contact page (yes, I inserted the field into the layout page already).
Those fields are both customized picklist, values are identical.
What I need is that in Lead, user update their value in picklist, and then in Contact From, I'll be able to see their choice. (also I'll be able to revise accordingly if anything changes)

OK, I'm stumped on why this is not passing the value over. I can share a post on how to force it over with Process Builder. What's great about that is you can use that to map Standard to Custom fields and vice versa.
