Hello. My org is preparing to migrate to NPSP (better late than never!) and we need to transfer records owned by inactive users to an active user. The issue is this: I can't figure out how!

I have seen the threads about how to allow this feature (by going to Setup>User Interface>and checking "Enable "Set Audit Fields upon Record Creation" and "Update Records with Inactive Owners" User Permissions."

I've done this but now I'm stuck on what to do next. I've found threads on how to mass transfer leads and contacts, but I'm sure there are other records that are owned by inactive users. How can I find a list of all of these records? Your help would be appreciated, thanks!

P.S: I am doing the transfer of records in the sandbox first to ensure a smooth transition. Thanks!

    To start you're gonna want to create Reports for each object that include the Full 18 Character SFDC Record ID

    You can do this by creating a custom field on each object and select

    Datatype = Formula

    Result = Text

    Formula =

    CASESAFEID(Id)

    This will give you an ID that is safe to use in an MS-Excel VLOOKUP

    You'll also want to crate a Custom field on each Object that indicates if the Owner is Active/Inactive

    Datatype = Formula

    Result = Checkbox

    Formula =

    Owner.IsActive

    Using those 2 Fields and pretty much any Standard SFDC Report you can create a CSV that has the

    Record.Id, and the Inactive Owner.

    Then just append the Salesforce User.Id (not their Username) of the new Owner and use a tool like the Force.com dataloader to mass transfer the records (one object at time)
