I have a custom object called "Financial Accounts," which consists of anywhere from 1 to 6 accounts.  It is related to the contact record.  I would like to be able to sum up all of the financial accounts and place that number back onto the contact record. 

 

The best approach seems to create a master-detail relationship field connecting the two, but have a couple reservations.  If I was to create a master-detail field, can it be non-visible on the layout and not required?  I am only wanting to summarize the field pulling in whatever accounts they have.  Please let me know the best course of action.

    Correct.  The current relation between the two is a lookup field.  If this is a problem, then are there other solutions or workarounds?  Thanks.
