Engagement Journey Automation overwrites "Responded" Status
We currently have 2 automations running in Pardot:
- Automation 1 via Form Submission Completion Action adds Prospect to Campaign A as "Responded".
- Automation 2 via Engagement Journey listens for an Email Open, and then adds the Prospect to Campaign A as "Sent".
Through this set up where we track our leads as number of campaign members with status "Responded", I find myself "losing" responses as an email open that occurs after the more important action, the form submit, changes the existing "Responded" status to "Sent".
It wouldn't be a problem the other way around, but since we have to allow time in the Engagement Journey for the open we initiate this status change after the CTA in the email was already clicked and prospect submitted the form.
Is there anyway to have Pardot/SFDC retain a "Responded" status? I.e. to have "Sent" be editable to "Responded" but not the other way around?
Or is the solution here to either:
- Not use campaign association via "Sent" for Email Open tracking in Journeys
- Or keep doing it, but set up a separate campaign for the form?
Thank you for you input!

Hi Brittany,
This is super helpful! I just implemented the steps you recommended and this should help avoid the issue I was describing.
Many thanks!
