We currently create our donor research profiles in Word and attach them as Files to Account records. The profile contains Contact info (name, email, phone, mailing address), some giving history, and data from external sources. We would like to transition this to Salesforce. My preliminary idea is a custom object with fields for data that doesn't already live somewhere else, then some sort of mail merge tool (we have Apsona) that merges it all together in one document. Has anyone built anything like this,or used a third party tool they recommend?

We are on NPSP with no immediate plans to move to NPC.

This was one of the first things I set up at my current role when I joined, and we admittedly haven't used it in years, but I went the Visualforce render as PDF route. Link from Account, pulls in Household fields and a couple related lists. A mail merge template definitely seems like a more sustainable approach esp since you have the tools already!

I am trying to connect Microsoft Power Automate to our Salesforce instance and receive the following:

Test connection failed. Details: Test connection has failed. Please check connector documentation and verify that your Salesforce instance meets connector limitations. clientRequestId: 7bae6fa8-7c6d-8fdc-c21d-afd383c1841a

I am trying to connect using Salesforce API version 47.0, which is the highest version available in the list. I have checked our API version and we are on v50.0 (Winter '21).

Is this version mismatch causing the error? If so, is there a workaround since selecting V50 doesn't appear to be an option?

This is the first time I have tried to connect Salesforce to Microsoft via Power Automate (Flow).

Hi, I'm facing the same issue. I've disabled the option 'Lock sessions to the IP address from which they originated' in the session settings and I've also granted access to 'Approve Uninstalled Connected Apps' but still no luck. Any idea how I can resolve this error?

Can anyone please suggest some better alternatives?

1) Picture Uploader really only works in Classic because it uploads to the Notes & Attachments related list, which is deprecated by Salesforce Files in Lightning since Winter '18. Once you use Magic Mover to convert all your Classic legacy notes and attachments to Salesforce files for Lightning, and enable "Files uploaded to the Attachments related list on records are uploaded as Salesforce Files, not as attachments" (as recommended during Lightning migration), it breaks the link and the image no longer display.

2) https://developer.salesforce.com/blogs/developer-relations/2015/11/create-lightning-component-drag-drop-profile-pictures.html (You'll get 2 compile errors regarding the "return null"...more deprecated code -- see https://help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=000269952&language=en_US&type=1 -- I couldn't make enough sense of this to understand how fix the code, so instead I just commented out lines 9 and 23, and then it compiled... However, it's very basic, drag and drop only, not even "Upload", "Edit" or "Delete" buttons so users can easily understand how to use it.)

Could a developer here modify the Apex code above to build a more user-friendly app with a resizable Lightning component, Upload/Edit/Delete buttons, etc. and post to the AppExchange... Please??

    Hi,

If you're still looking for a native-looking option, we recently launched an AppExchange component for this.

It lets users upload, crop, and display images or logos directly on standard or custom Salesforce record pages, alongside selected record fields so everything stays in one place.

Might save you some time if you don't want to build and maintain a custom LWC just for image upload and display.

Hello:  My organization just started setting up GAU allocations, and my question is can you set up so that i can specify an allocation to a program activity and to a specific year...   For example, i know GAU allows me to allocate a donation to a different program activities (see pic 1).  But can i also tag a donation to spread over certain years as seen in second example (see pic 2) ?   I guess i'm asking if there is a time dimension we can add to GAU allocation ...   Any help on this would be greatly appreciated !

I have also been trying to do this @Lily Le - to use GAUs to allocate income in one opportunity over more than one year (to the same GAU or project). The GAU's can Can be allocated to more than one GAU but one GAU cannot be allocated to many dates. like @Michael Brown Suggested I added a date the allocation is for and used a another field calculate the year that the allocation is for but but I'm struggling to use the same GAU to allocate the opportunity over three years for example. Seems an obvious thing to ask without having to create an opportunity for every year you want to allocate the original lump of income too.... humph

I am importing historic data for a nonprofit using NPSP. I have used NPSP Data Import templates to create primary affiliations. The system automatically created affiliation start date as date of import. I have rectified it for now. My question is for future uploads, how do you deal with start date and other fields automatically created? Do you add the column to the template yourself? Any other field I should be aware of?

    Hi @Munazza Khalil,

Yes, this is expected behavior with the NPSP Data Import process. If a value isn't provided for certain fields, NPSP may populate default values during record creation—for example, the Affiliation Start Date can default to the import date.

For historical data migrations, it's generally a good practice to extend the standard import template by adding any fields you want to preserve, such as Affiliation Start Date and other relevant historical fields. As long as the field is supported and mapped correctly during the import, NPSP will use the value you provide instead of the default.

Before performing a large migration, I also recommend testing with a small batch of records to identify any fields that receive default values or automation-driven updates. This helps ensure your historical data is imported accurately.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your migration!

We are in the process of moving to NPSP Gift entry. We receive donations in multiple currencies, and we are a registered charity in Canada. We need to be able to receipt people through year end tax receipts in CAD. So far I'm not seeing any way to configure NPSP Gift Entry to work with multiple currencies. Any advice?

Thanks!

    Hi,

You need to enable Multiple Currencies setting.

Setup → Company Information → Currency Setup:

    1. Enable Multiple Currencies
    2. Then enable Advanced Currency Management (dated exchange rates)
    3. Add all currencies you receive donations in (USD, EUR, GBP, etc.)

Please note once Multiple Currencies is enabled it cannot be turned off. Test in a sandbox first.

Our charity is quite new to salesforce and we're looking to import data about our donors from a csv file from elsewhere (Enthuse) into salesforce.

Each time someone donates, we receive their contact information (email, phone number, address) which may have changed since the last time they donated, so we would like to update the 'contact' object with this information.

However, primarily, we want to import the donation amount and details as an 'opportunity' object that is linked to a contact within the NonProfit Success Pack.

Would I be able to import the data to both update the contact details as well as update a new opportunity linked to that contact record, simultaneously in one data import? Or do these need to be done separately one after the other?

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi @Helen Cordina,

Great question, this is a common scenario when working with donor data and the Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP).

You’ll need to handle Contacts and Opportunities (donations) in two separate imports, rather than all at once. Here’s why and how:

    1. Update Contacts first
      • Use the Data Import Wizard or Data Loader to import your contact information (email, phone, address, etc.).
      • Make sure each contact has a unique identifier (such as email or Salesforce Contact ID) so Salesforce knows which records to update instead of creating duplicates.
    2. Import Opportunities next
      • Once your contact records are updated, import your donation data into the Opportunity object.
      • Include a field in your CSV (like Contact ID or email) that allows Salesforce to link each opportunity to the right contact.
      • In NPSP, donations are often linked to Contacts through the Primary Contact field on the Opportunity or via the Contact Role relationship.

Unfortunately, Salesforce doesn’t support creating or updating records in two different objects simultaneously in a single import. Doing it in two steps ensures your data stays accurate and relationships link correctly.

If you’re planning to do this regularly, you might also explore NPSP Data Importer, which helps manage both Contacts and Opportunities in one process, but still handles them as separate records behind the scenes.

Hope that helps clarify the process!

Hello. Brand new to this NPSP. I have an existing Org on Lightening. It has alot of custom fields within Account, Opportunity, Lead Contact objects (15 years worth) primary tracking sales and sponsorship details based on the sales flow.

I have deployed the trial of NPSP 3 so that I can migrate data over to new Org. So it's completely empty as of now. I used Data Loader to extra all the data from the objects in existing org. However, I cannot import until I have all the new custom fields created.

Question - What is the best way to export the schema (custom fields) from the existing org and bulk create in the new schema/custom fields in the NPSP Org.

I've seen a few tools that will export schema. I don't mind a paid tool. but looking for the easiest way to export schema and update/create schema in the new NPSP Org.
