Tableau User Group board | Netherlands

Hi Everyone,

On the 13th of June at 16:00, we are hosting a Enterprise Deployment user group at Coolblue in Rotterdam. In this smaller event we are going to focus on the challenges that arise when you try to deploy Tableau in a large(r) enterprise environment. The goal of these sessions is to have a platform for us to share use cases and discuss solutions to common deployment issues.

The topics for this session are:

- Portals for Tableau, with an introduction by Dirk Floor of Coolblue

- Training Tableau, with an introduction by Jim de Clercq of Logitech

- Tableau licensing models

If you are interested to participate, please reach out to Jim or Dirk. There's limited capacity available (max 14 seats), because we also want to keep this session as interactive as possible. If there is a lot of interest, we can certainly look to organize more of these smaller everts around specific topics in the future.

Regards,

Dirk Floor and Jim de Clercq

    Hi all,

Unfortunately we've had a few cancellations and as such we thought it better to cancel this session and try to reschedule soon. We will let you know as soon as we've found a new date.

I also believe that an upgrade to the functionality and user interface of the data source selection feature in Tableau would be beneficial. The suggested enhancement, which would allow for the combination of published data sources, is a significant improvement over the current system. It would be more practical if these published data sources could be handled in the same way as any other local data sources:

"It would be great to have a SET ROLE functionality specially for Site Admins

The introduction of a functional SET ROLE feature, particularly for Site Administrators, would be highly beneficial. This feature would alleviate the need for Site Admins to constantly operate with full permissions, which can often complicate the process of locating specific objects due to the extensive access privileges.

Many Site Admins are also involved in the development of dashboards, and having unrestricted access can make navigation and object location challenging. Moreover, it’s a good security practice to limit the use of the Site Admin role to only when it’s necessary.

With the implementation of automated User Provisioning and Group Synchronization via an External Identity Provider, users typically belong to multiple groups, each providing different access levels.

Ideally, this feature would function similarly to Snowflake’s setup, where the SET ROLE defines the active or primary role for the session. This active role sets the context that determines the user’s privileges, dictating their ability to navigate and view (sub-)projects/datasources/etc within Tableau. This would greatly enhance both the user experience and the platform’s security."

Hi,

Is there anyone here that has successfully setup SSO from Tableau Server to SAP BW?

We'd like to set this up, but current online documentation is from 5 years ago and is for instance referring to SAP GUI 7.40. Currently we are on 7.60, will this work?

    Hi Gareth,

Thanks for your reply, and apologies for the late response from my side. I was away from work for a while, but now that I've returned it seems this topic has not been resolved yet.

The link that you have shared is what I have found earlier, and will apparently break our current SSO SAPGUI setup. That documentation is also quite old, and is referring to much older versions and to some programs that do no longer exist it seems.

I was hoping to find someone in this group that has successfully setup SSO from Tableau to a SAP BW environment, and can share details on how to achieve this. Is this such an exceptional use case?

Just created idea "Add "Tableau Mobile" as a separate permission setting"

Add "Tableau Mobile" as a separate permission setting so that Site Admin's can decide which projects/workbooks can be accessed via Tableau Mobile.

Anybody here also waiting for no-code functionality in Tableau Cloud to change the timezone for it's end user? We have users in multiple timezones and don't want to annoy our end users by showing the UTC time for e.g. "<data last updated>".
