Unable to connect to link the emulator to Safari.

Hi, 

I am trying to debug a LWC on the emulator and trying to link to safari to capture some logs. However when I open the Safari I couldn't see anything to select on the develop tab.

    @Harish Pisapati is this still occurring, even after waiting for a few minutes? If so, not sure just yet on how to troubleshoot since this is in Salesforce App, but please report back and we can go from there.

    Hi @Murugan MM

     

    Xcode only works on macOS, one solution to get Xcode on Windows would be to install macOS on a Windows PC using a virtualization app such as VMware or VirtualBox. Using a virtualization platform gives users the full functionality of Xcode on their Windows machine.

As a client requirement, we are started to build mobile app using Aura components. As per the salesforce mobile debugging tools for Android and ios, we have downloaded them and tried to use them . But when we installed Android Studio and Xcode we found issue in our Laptop/Desktop that it consuming more than 10 GB of harddisk space and it makes the system slow and unable to respond on clicks and move. IS there any other mobile debugging tool available to test our changes?

    Aura components aren't supported in the Field Service Mobile + LWC pilot. They won't work at all. Lightning web components are the supported flavor in Field Service Mobile.

     

    Xcode and Android Studio are pigs, no doubt about it, at least in terms of disk space. But 10 gigs for two complex IDEs, associated secondary tools, the emulator/simulator images, SDK libraries, and so on really isn't that bad, all things considered. Consider that the last iOS upgrade was as large as five gigabytes, and that's essentially what a virtual device image is, and you can see why there's such a large footprint for the tools.

     

    More concerning is the performance issue you describe. Could you provide more details? What system were you running them on? How much memory is installed? How much memory was being consumed overall? What else was running? Did you try rebooting and going directly to e.g. an iOS Simulator? How was performance in that relatively clean environment?

     

    I run Xcode and Android Studio on a MacBook Pro 13" (2020) with 32 gigs of RAM, and while neither runs <sorry> swiftly, they're still quite usable, without any of the issues you described.

     

    Xcode and Android Studio are the only (good) tools available to run virtual devices, and running the virtual device builds of the pilot apps is by far the best debugging experience available. (We know there's plenty of room for improvement in our debugging tools, but it's still the best DX available today.)

     

    While you could pursue other development/debugging tools, the behavior you describe isn't typical or expected. It's a far better effort to try to resolve that, than to try to replace them.

I'm running into an issue when installing the Salesforce Mobile App (Chatter) into the simulator. I'm able to drag and drop the app into the simulator (iOS 14.4) and it is created properly. When I click on the app, a white page pop-us up and then the app exits back to iPhone home screen. It seems that I can't even read the EULA disclaimer. Any idea on how to resolve this?

    we know it's not the greatest answer, and that you're far from the only customer who would like to test behavior on iOS, but have limited (or no) access to Macs in your development org.

    We don't have a better answer today, but don't stop asking it, or proposing ideas. It's unlikely that Apple will ever offer Xcode on Windows, but we'd love to hear about clever cloud-based implementations.

HI ,

 

Am trying to debug LWC component which needs to be exposed in Salesforce mobile app . But looks like the console.logs are not coming properly

 

1) Have put the Salesforce mobile app build (https://sfdc.co/salesforce-mobile-app-android-emulator) in the emulator (Emulator Pixel 2 api 29) and opened the sandbox and then the LWC component. But logcat (in the android studio) doesn't provide any output of console.log from the lwc. Do we need to make any setting ?

 

2) Have setup the VS code in accordance to the https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/component-library/documentation/en/lwc/lwc.mobile_extensions_vscode_previews . The same component (lwc) which loads perfectly in Salesforce mobile app and the emulator, gets distorted and again no console log appears . Any extra steps we need to follow other than whats mentioned in the https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/component-library/documentation/en/lwc/lwc.mobile_extensions_vscode_previews ?

 

Any help/suggestions will really be appreciable and thanks in advance .
