Tableau does not like Oracle synonyms over JDBC Driver

I have a customer that just updated the Oracle driver to JDBC. Doing this, they lost the ability to use synonymns in datasources. Any synonym table added to a data source shows up without columns, and any existing datasource using synonyms fail. When the synonymns are called using Custom sql, everything works fine.

Does anyone have some information on Oracle Synonymns and JDBC driver, especially on linux/RHEL7. Is there something we can do to get the synonymns working as expected.
