Hi Viz Experts,

I am trying put some weather forecast data to my dashboard.

I have put a collection of weather icons in the tableau shape folder.

Then comes my question that how to build a fixed/default connection between field value and shape?

I know that I can assign the icon 1 by 1 manully, do we have more easier to achive that? Maybe a default mapping for data to shape?

Thanks

    Hi David,

You should structure you view like the following:

Hi David, You should structure you view like the following: and then you will need a field (in this case W1) that provides the rules for all your icons.

and then you will need a field (in this case W1) that provides the rules for all your icons. For example, instead of having W1,W2,W3 you should have only one field called VALUE and then each value should be linked to an icon

    1 sun

    2 sun

    3 sun

    4 rain

    5 rain

    6 storm

    ....

Then the configuration would be on your VALUE field that you can add to your shape marks and will carry across the whole workbook. The way you are doing it now will be really inefficient. Hope this helps.
