Hi Everyone,

I built a dashboard using 6 sheets. There were a couple of sheets I added to the dashboard that slowed the refresh time. I wanted to see how much faster my dashboard would run if I removed them from the dashboard but I didn't want to make changes to my workbook only to find it didn't help. I created a duplicate workbook as a tester for my edits. I found removing those sheets from my dashboard improved the speed and usability of the dashboard. I turned around and made the exact same edits to my original workbook. However, I found there's still a computing time around 30s - 60s long to populate the dashboard visualizations as opposed to the almost instantaneous population of visuals on my test workbook. Both are working off the same extracted data source.

I used the Performance Recorder on both workbooks and found the original workbook had way more events run than the duplicated notebook (see screenshots). I tried to search online why the duplicate workbook would perform better but unsure if I'm wording my query correctly.

Unfortunately, I am unable to share my workbook as it contains company-sensitive information. I'm just curious to know if there's anything I could do to improve the original workbook's performance to match the duplicate or if there's something that's naturally running in the background of the workbook causing this slow down.

Any explanation or help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

    Hello!

    1. If want to check time of computing vizes in both workbooks correctly you have to follow this steps: create new clean worksheet and save wb on this worksheet -> close and open again -> do Performace Recoding -> compare the results. If you do PerfRecording on cashed vizzes you face different results in testing. Read more: https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/perf_record_create_desktop.htm
    2. Of course you can optimize this, but firstly you have to follow this tips: https://www.tableau.com/about/blog/2016/1/5-tips-make-your-dashboards-more-performant-48574 or this https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/perf_checklist.htm.
