Hi All,

We have a formula field created on the Salesforce CPQ Quote object which is being referred to in the approval condition of the approval rule. After the field and approval condition referring to this field is deployed in Production, users start getting the "Read permission error" when trying to submit the Quote for approval. Also attaching the screenshot for reference.

When we made the field visible to the profile. The issue got resolved.

So the question is, Is it mandatory to make the field visible in order to refer to the field in advance approvals?

My understanding is that the formula field is by default read-only and if we don't want to show this field to end-user that in that case how can we get the approvals to work without making it visible to the profiles.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yes you have to have this field visible in field level security.  You then hide it from view using standard layouts and/or dynamic lightning page layout.  Then it's visible as a field so your rules can fire correctly but the users can't see it because layouts.
