We set up a validation rule on a Sales Invoice object that prevents users from saving a sales invoice record where the transaction date and period are out of sync. We now have a situation where we are now trying to update some fields on the sales invoice header record but we can't for certain invoices because the transction date and period are out of sync. Is there a way in wihich we can still have the validation in place but it allows us to edit other fields? thanks

Hi Amnon,
Thank you for your response. I'm not sure I completely understand what to do.
This is the formula we have in place for the Sales Invoice object, So basically where the period and invoice date are not aligned the validation triggers which we want it to do but not prevent us from updating other fields
OR(( c2g__InvoiceDate__c > c2g__Period__r.c2g__EndDate__c),
( c2g__InvoiceDate__c < c2g__Period__r.c2g__StartDate__c))
So we want to stop the validation from coming up when other fields are changed. Ie I'm trying to change/update values in the 3 fields below but the validation keeps stopping me
1.Collections Overdue Reason Code (This is a picklist field)
2. Notes (for collections) - This is a free text field
3. Date: This is a date field
How can I amend the formula to update these fields please . Sorry I'm new to salesforce & still learning
Thanks a bunch
