Auto-update of status based on date range

Hi there,

 

I have 2 date fields on my Order record - Start and End Date.  

 

I also have a Status field containing the following values:

 

- Waiting to Start

 

- In Progress

 

- Completed.

 

Just wondering what the best way of auto-updating the status would be, based on the Start and End Dates, without being dependent on a User editing the record first.

 

Any suggestions are most welcome.

    Awesome, if you can have your status field a formula field, then you are in business.

     

    That pseudo code translated to your status formula field would be much like you have above:

     

     

    IF(
        TODAY() < StartDate, "Waiting to Start", 
              IF( TODAY() > StartDate && TODAY() < EndDate, "In Progress",
                  IF( TODAY() > EndDate, "Completed", "Null")
              )
    )

     

    However you may need to substitute your exact field names in for StartDate and EndDate. I was using the standard ones from Campaign for that. P.S. this is a formula field with return type text.
