Can I deploy from one org to another?

We have 2 orgs.  We merged last year but have been paying for 1 license to keep the data and structure for reference in the old org.  We want to end the contract for the old org.  My plan was to export the data to keep on hand, but as for the structure I wanted to use a deployment to move the structure from the old org into a sandbox in the new org.  Is this possible?  I created a changeset but I cannot figure out how to connect the 2 orgs together.

    Josh, a couple of things you need to consider

     

    1. There are certain quirks in deploying via Force.com IDE.

     

    2. If you get any issues deploying a couple of things, migrate them manually.

     

    3. As for custom objects and custom fields, they can be migrated via Force.com IDE.

     

    4. Fields and objects should be the first things to be migrated before deploying other things, as classes, pages, workflows refer to objects and fields.

     

    5. To deploy custom objects and fields, follow the following steps

     

    Take a checkout of the Project Components in Force.com IDE/Eclipse

    To deploy the Objects, right click on the objects folder => Force.com => Deploy to Server....

    Put in the details of thr Salesforce ORGANIZATION you want the code to deploy to.
