Multi-select Picklist Values do not play nice with my reporting...

For example, if the field is pertaining to advertising and the multi-select values were:

  1. Email
  2. Print
  3. PPC

My reporting/dashboards are coming out like:

  • Email
  • Email, Print
  • Email, Print, PPC
  • Print, PPC
  • Print
  • PPC

How do I take the values for a multi-select picklist field and summarize them:

  • Email 45%
  • PPC 30%
  • Print 25%

That is correct.  Multi-select picklists are almost impossible to report against -- its why they should be avoided at all costs.  In order to do any sort of reporting, you will need to create an entire set of custom formula fields following this pattern:

    1) create a formula checkbox field to be true if a MSP has a certain value selected.

    2) repeat #1 for all the values of the MSP

    3) create another set of custom formula checkbox fields for any value combinations you care about - based on the checkbox fields in 1 & 2

You will then be able to do reporting based on the number of records with different checkboxes 'checked'.
