What is the best way to delete duplicate contacts?

How many Contacts (ballpark) do you have on your SFDC org and about how mnay duplicates do you need to merge? You should never just delete records unless they're completely bogus, otherwise you lose any history (Activity, Campaign, etc) you should always merge duplicates whenever possible.
