Happy Hump Day! (< does that just date me?)

Sputnik Moment is excited to start offering funder/grantmaker/charity-specific Ask Me Anything/open office hours every other Wednesday starting July 15 (click the link to register!).

Come one, come all to these [hopefully] lively, engaging, dare I say candid🧐chats where you can ask me anything – Salesforce, not-Salesforce, industry trends, trust-based?, carry-on only travel hacks, moving abroad, AI, WTF is "headless?", existential/mid-life crisis philosophy, foodie-crawls, KPop Demon Hunters, etc. If nothing else, it's a fun excuse to hang out with me. 😆 [and if you don't like me, share this with your enemies]

This is NOT meant to encroach on the official Salesforce @Nonprofit Hub ask me anything sessions nor on any @Foundations User Group meetings, but supplement and also include peeps even outside of the salesforce ecosystem. And if I don’t know the answer, I’ll pull an LLM 🤣 (yup, totes going to get that into the viral vernacular).

Can’t wait to see you there! And if it’s just me by myself, I’m told I def know how to keep self entertained (turn over >) IYKYK…

I wanted to share a Flow (NO CODE) that can do a Nonprofit Charity Check and retrieve tax record Data for US-based nonprofits and foundations.  I recorded a Demo and overview of the build if you're interested.  I think this could be really helpful for nonprofits and foundations that need to review 990s, tax exempt status, and lookup EINs.  It still has room to grow as I hope to dig into NTEE codes and Funding Codes that are part of the 990 data and could help identify orgs funding or working on a particular issue.

View: Demo/Overview On Youtube

So Part 2, what are your ideas?  What other things do you wish you could have a flow reach get, to display about an organization, or update your records in Salesforce with updated data and save your staff time and help your organization?  Do you know of a free API where this data exists but you don't know how to access it?  If so, please share it in the comments.  I'd like to continue to expand this flow to make it easy for

nonprofits to keep data up to date and have easy access to data that can help inform their work all without having to leave Salesforce.

I'm excited to check this out, thanks! While the nonprofit I work at doesn't really do this kind of data tracking or work, as with most things, I'm sure there's elements I can incorporate into what we do.

My biggest back burner idea/hope is around helping my coworkers who constantly have to go to our state's assessment/taxation website to look up their client's property records and copy the data to our system. We use grant funding to help make energy efficiency upgrades to homes like efficient lightbulbs, weatherizing homes with insulation, and solar panel installation accessible to low/moderate income residents.  And use all that information for reporting purposes. I know there is some kind of "Open Data Portal" for our state, but I haven't had time, or the knowledge/experience, to properly investigate.

Hey, everyone! I wanted to let you all know that we just published a new Grantmaking: Quick Look Trailhead module.

The module covers how your organization can plan, review, and manage grants in Salesforce with the new Grantmaking product.

There are two more badges in the works now—one about using the product to manage the entire grantmaking lifecycle, and one specifically about the grantmaking site template for Experience Cloud. Watch for those in the next few months.

What would you like to learn? Let me know and we'll add it to our Trailhead plans.

@ryan davis I don't have any plans for a module on that specific topic at the moment, but I can add it to my list to explore.

#SFDOSprintIdea  For all of those who were looking for linking Funding programs with the GAU, we're going to be continuing our discussion around this linkage from the last Sprint in Denver, while in Portland and hoping ot make some progress.

At Denver, we had stalled on a few scenarios to help get these two items connected.

  1. Utilize GAU Expenditures from the package with additional changes (like record type or other considerations)
  2. Utilize a new custom object
  3. Add additional lookup field to the existing GAU Allocation object in the NPSP (this would require some customization by Salesforce.org to allow for better extensibility).

We're hoping to build on this conversation from Denver and get some resolution so we can see this in the package soon!

Ways that you can help, if you have some scenarios or experience and will be at the Sprint, we'd love to have you join our table for a few minutes, or for the whole sprint.  However as we know many people won't be able to attend the Sprint, we'd love to have your feedback here.

Please share any use cases or other relevant information on this thread, and the team at the Sprint will be monitoring the discussion here.

My organization is currently using Salesforce for pre-award opportunity tracking, as well as general contact management and Pardot for marketing. However, there is interest in my org of migrating our consultant database to Salesforce. I have created several custom objects to capture the data related to these consultants (i.e. language, geographic experience, thematic expertise), but the question that remains for me is whether Salesforce is the right platform to manage that post-award data. I'd love to hear from folks in the community who have used Salesforce for a post-award project and program management and what kinds of advantages or pitfalls they experience.

Thanks!

My org manages all of our post-award processes in Salesforce! We manage contracts, fund disbursements, payment contingencies (interim reports, conditions, terms, etc), no cost extensions, and even project modifications. We don't track site visits, but that's more a cultural thing than a technology thing. We also track benchmarks (we call them milestones) with annual updates that are all stored as records in Salesforce. Happy to share more if you find any of this helpful! I think other #philanthropy / #grantmaking / #foundations folks might have more to share. Tagging @foundationConnect  since lots of us do all of this and more!

We are building out our grants department in Salesforce to manage the pre and post award process using the NPSP established track of Accounts, Opportunities and Deliverables.

Our CEO would like to widen this project to include other types of contracts, MOUs, and other agreements, so I started looking at Contracts and Quotes that are related to Opportunities. These would help us keep a record of the bids we get for large projects and then the final contract. However, I recognize that these are set-up for sending out quotes to customers and capturing contracts in the reverse direction.

Has anyone reverse engineered these standard objects for to gather incoming quotes and contracts? If so, what should I keep in mind for this project?

Thanks.

Super excited for the upcoming sprint at Long Beach! Have you heard of the @Outbound Funds Module (SFDO Product)? You may have used the app to manage outbound funds or maybe you're curious about how it might work for your org? Come join the table at the sprint and collaborate!

The group will be working on some videography scripts and would love to hear your ideas on the following topics:

  • Core App for Nonprofits
  • Core App for HEDA
  • NPSP Extension

We've been round-peg-in-square-holing grantmaking with SF+NPSP for several years (currently trying to figure out exactly why the original consultant setup NPSP and if we're even really using it or if it was just a knee-jerk reaction to the word "nonprofit").  I see the note about using Opportunities for Incoming Funds.  We renamed Opps to Applications (Accounts we renamed to Organizations) and track status from submitted to either declined -ends as an Application- or awarded -a 1-to-1 relationship with a custom object, "Project", record.  Multiple Applications are parented by a custom object, "Cohort", with each Cohort record being a grant program.

Outbound Funds is moving fast and furious, but if anyone involved in development is interested, I'd be happy to share/show more of what we do and how, and also see if we're too far along to consider it ourselves at this point.

    Hi @Matthew Kozak

have you taken a look in the Solution Exchange here in the Hub for use cases?

I just filtered by "nonprofit", and "grant making" and found these results:

    1) Amazon Watch uses Salesforce for Fundraising and Donor Engagement:

    Hope that helps!

    Any other ideas?

Another #SFDOSprintIdea: We're also hoping to create a video script or two to share this amazing tool with the community (and of course we hope to partner with the famous @Commons Project: NP SF How-to Series team when the time comes to record.) So if you're coming to Portland and want to try your hand at scripting a video demo or if you've written a ton of scripts and want to offer your expertise - come join us at the Outbound Funds table!
