    @Sai Krishna

    Hi, well my answers:

    a. Is it possible to use Tableau / Prep as an input tool and how much does it cost? Yes, you can output a flow to publish, writeback to Snowflake.

How much does it cost? Well, it depends if you want to run the flows manually or on a schedule.

If you want to run manually the flows, you would need a creator license. This license gives you Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep Builder, and the possibility to publish flows to Tableau Online/Server, and run flows on Tableau Online/Server. However, with only this license, you would not be able to schedule flows. ($840/year)

If you need to schedule flows to run, then you need to acquire Data Management Add On, this would let you to schedule flow to run (very recommended). Data Management Add On will give you also Data Catalog, and some excellent new features for centralized RLS, etc.

This cost 5.5 per user/month in your install, and if you need it in Tableau Online, $250/month to use a resource block. Each resource block, will let you run a flow at a same time. Resource block is not needed in Tableau Server, only for Tableau Online.

    b. . The old data and new data both should reflect in snowflake?

To achieve this, you can output your flow to two tables in snowflake, one that has the old data, and one with the new data. Then you can create your viz from this two tables.

    c. They want to see the data in an editable format and use Tableau Prep as an input tool?

Tableau Prep could serve as an input tool, but through running flows.

    d. Can an end-user modify the data in Tableau on fly by visualization the report, and the changes should reflect on underlying database as well as visualization?

Well, this is the most difficult thing, currently Tableau cannot do it directly, but using a Tableau extension it is likely that you can achieve the writeback action. Tableau is currently working on make it even easier with actions extension.

    @Catie Hannah

Hi, you may use Ctrl + 0 (Ctrl Key and zero) to set the UI to the default zoom. If you want to zoom out then you can use Ctrl + - (Ctrl Key and minus).

Ctrl + ¿ (Ctrl and open quotation mark) or Ctrl + ¡ (Ctrl and open exclamation mark) (yeah this are latin characters) will allow you to increase UI zoom

Hello all.

I've been asked to increase the size of a unicode symbol that's being used in my worksheets; it's a filled black circle (●). When I tried to increase the font size of the current circle, it increased the spacing between the lines of text I'm using in the worksheet due to the increased font size.

I finally found a viz in Tableau Public called ASCII Symbols & Use Cases (thanks Pradeep Kumar G!!!) that used a larger black circle, but I'd like to be able to find a list of symbols of various sizes just in case the requestors want a different size.

Does anyone know if a list like this exists or if an alternate solution is available? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Been using Tableau Desktop for less than a year, but have been pushed to go beyond what I'd consider to be "the basics" based on requests I'm getting on the job. So, here's another question, "Newbie-level" or not:

I've created invisible navigation buttons for my dashboards using text buttons. Works great in Tableau Desktop, but when I publish the dashboards, there's a "ghost" image in white that appears in all the navigation buttons.

I used the following steps to create the navigation buttons:

1 - Pointed the button to a dashboard

2 - Create a BLANK title by adding a space

3 - Set the font color to WHITE

4 - Set the background to NONE

Any idea why the buttons won't remain transparent when publishing the

dashboard? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions to fix this.

In the dialog where you have created a Navigation button, there is an option "Image" instead of "Text". You can make your own transparent pixel, or download one from Wikipedia:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1x1.png

The image will fill the button box, but maintain its aspect ratio, so if you have a long rectangle to click on, a square image will not fill it, so you would have to create a transparent rectangle of the correct aspect ratio.

In the dialog where you have created a Navigation button, there is an option

We have purchase order (PO) data that includes multiple lines of data if more than one item or service has been purchased. Sometimes, we don't need all of the lines, we just need one line per PO. Would it be possible to use Prep to consolidate this data? Could we just keep line 1 for each PO and sum up all of the PO lines on that one line?

Hello,

We are using Tableau Prep to combine various data sources and would like to output it automatically on a regular basis as Excel file and save it in our Company Share.

We use Tableau Online (not server).

I have scheduled the flow (we have Data Management) and it failed with the following error:

"The output file path isn't valid or you do not have permission to save to the file location."

Suggested Action:

"Contact your System Administrator to check your permissions and verify that the file path is included in your organisation's allowlist. Otherwise use a different file path to save the output."

How can I add file path in Tableau Online?

If it is not possible, how else can I achieve my end goal -> to automatically export into Excel on a regular basis

Thanks

Anna

    hi @Hari Ankem ,

at the end we no longer needed this functionality.

however, I did talk to Tableau team & was told that that error message is expected , when one is using Cloud (not Server). They did suggest the workaround: you could try scheduling prep using command line

    https://help.tableau.com/current/prep/en-us/prep_run_commandline.htm

the idea behind that would be to use VM, install Prep there & schedule flow as per article above.

    Image 03

    If [Code]=’A-1’ and [Reference]=1 then ‘A’

    Elseif [Code]=’B-2’ and [Reference]=2 then ‘B’

    Elseif [Code]=’B-1’ and [Reference]=3 then ‘C’

    Elseif [Code]=’C-3’ and [Reference]=3 then ‘D’

    END

    Image 04

    If [Tally]=100 and [Reference]=1 then ‘A’

    Elseif [Tally]=200 and [Reference]=2 then ‘B’

    Elseif [Tally]=200 and [Reference]=3 then ‘C’

    Elseif [Tally]=300 and [Reference]=3 then ‘D’

    END

    Image 05

I'm creating bar chart worksheets for multiple measures, and I'd like to use conditional formatting to color the bars. All of the bars will show either the SUM(Measure), whether it's a dollar amount for count.

Is it possible to use just one calculated field that defines the color for all of the worksheets, regardless of the measure used? (ex: IF Total Sales < Sales Goal THEN 'Red' ELSE 'Green') .

Right now, I'm creating a calculated field for each of the measures, but it feels redundant since the IF condition is the same for each measure; I've also got a lot of measures to work with.

Also, I notice that when I apply the conditional format, I the colors I use in the calculation are not automatically applied; I have to change them to Red or Green based on the result of the IF condition.

A sample workbook is attached. Thanks in advance for any suggestions offered; it's appreciated.
