I noticed that at TC18, there were 2 certification exam sessions, one on Monday, the other on Thursday.  Can you take 2 exams at one conference?

    Hi Michael,

If you fail an exam on Monday, you may be able to retake it on Thursday if there are still additional testing spots available (if you've already taken it once and fail on your second try though, there's a two month waiting period).

If you're talking about taking the Qualified Associate exam on Monday and then the Certified Professional on Thursday, you wouldn't be able to sign up for the CP exam until you've passed the QA exam (it's a pre-req for taking the CP).  However, if you pass the QA on Monday and there are still testing spots available on Thursday they may let you sign up to take it then.

I took the CP exam at TC 18 and while I passed, I definitely would not have wanted to take two exams within 3 days of each other.  I was exhausted after the CP exam.  That's just my personal opinion though.

Also, I made sure to take the exam on Monday so that I could enjoy the rest of the conference and not have to worry about another exam.  I feel like I wouldn't have been able to enjoy it as much if I had a second exam coming up on that Thursday.

    Best,

    Paul

Hello.

Wow...great shirt!  I could never pull off horizontal stripes like that.  Good on ya, mate.

So I downloaded the TC19 Conference App with great anticipation today.

I have yet to register for a single session because all I'm getting is:  EXTERNAL API ERROR.

I've connected via Wi-Fi.  I've connected to the Verizon Network (pulling data, no WiFi), and I get the same results either way.

Does anybody know what's going on?  Is anybody having similar problems?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Erik

    Hi All,

We just got an update that they're having problems with the database (API error) and are working with the vendor to get past that issue....the database powers both the schedule and web portal.  So you may see the same issue but reported differently depending on how you're accessing (whether through app or web portal).

Additionally, the session capacity is being rolled out over a period of days to allow other attendees an opportunity to get in and reserve sessions, so check back later today or tomorrow or next day and you'll likely see an opportunity to get in the session you want.

If you have other issues related to TC19, you can email tcapphelp@tableau.com ; it would be good to give them screenshots.  Best, Don

Finally got approval to go to the conference! I noticed there is a Tour de France event happening the Sunday before... which makes it basically perfect timing for some pre conference shenanigans! I'm planning to attend both events and I'm wondering if anyone else is doing the same.

The ride looks to have completely closed roads and a good amount of climbing. Otherwise it looks like a fondo with all the bells and whistles. Package pickup is Saturday.

Anyways Happy to meet up with any other cyclists doing both and/or perhaps carpool.

Hope everyone enjoys the conference!

Unfortunately, not seeing an option to close. So forced to mark a response as best so that it's closed.

Hi Group,

This will be my first conference and I see in the agenda that there are hands-on sessions.  How do these work?  Do I need a laptop with Tableau installed, or are computers provided?

Is it hard to get into hands-on session?  Do I need to pre-register?

This is no info on this in the FAQ.

Thanks!

    Hi Bill!

Hands-On Training sessions have computers in them, you don't need to bring your own. We have provided functionality in the conference mobile app to pre-register for these sessions this year and I would highly recommend it - they are our most popular sessions and they tend to fill up quickly. If you don't get your first choice session you can always try getting in the stand by line for each session.

If you haven't downloaded the app yet, you can find it in the iOS, Android, or Windows Phone store. Just search for "Data15" or "Tableau Conference"

    Hope this helps!

Toby - thanks for the mention.

Hi everyone,

I am still newer to Tableau and I’ve wanted to incorporate it more with GIS and mapping projects. I watched this video On the map: Advanced mapping and spatial analysis with Tableau - YouTube and was really impressed and wanted to try doing this myself (I’m especially interested in the heat map of Air BnB properties in San Fran). The presenters mention that their workbooks and resources are available online. However, when I’ve looked for them I haven’t been able to track them down. I was wondering if this information is no longer available or if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks!

I'm just going back over some core topics in preparation for an exam and would like to look at some reference material, including the workbooks.

For example, underneath the free training on Data Blending, there are references to further resources, including these:

  • TC14: Become a Mix Master with Data Blending
  • TC14: Extreme Data Blending
  • TC16: Making Magic with Data Blending

None of these are available, the links just take me to the promotional page for TC19.

I found Making Magic with Data Blending on YouTube, but would like to be able to play with the workbook too.

Thanks,

Tim

I've enjoyed the music the last couple years at TC.  Does anyone know where I can find the playlist they used?  If not, we can share and create our own here!

Two songs I recall from the trips:

  1. Lupe Fiasco - Kick, Push
  2. Ben Rector - Brand New
