Tableau User Group board | San Diego

Tableau courses come in all shapes, flavors, and sizes. Some are classroom oriented, while others are offered online. In your view, which of all of these options offers the biggest bang for the buck in San Diego County?

    Philip,

Here is a link to a number of Knowledge base videos provided by Tableau.  I think if you followed along with these videos you would have 90% of what you need to pass the desktop certification.  The other 10% would come from experience as you apply the principles you learned there to other vizzes.

To practice and get more variety, you could follow along with the examples provided in these excellent videos listed below.  Note that where you'll need more practice to gain proficiency will be in the more advanced topics such as table calculations, level-of-detail calculations, and order of operations.

Tips and Tricks from a Tableau Jedi - YouTube

50 Tips in 50 Minutes Tableau Customer Conference 2016 - YouTube

Best of luck with your training and feel free to bring any of your questions or topics to the user group meeting and we'll be happy to cover it.

I work in healthcare so I apologize for not including a sample workbook. A mock dataset has been attached below. The challenge is to find a way to count the first visit per patient for each fiscal year that runs from July 1 - June 30. We are working with three fields or columns: Service Date, Patient ID, Encounter ID. I have tried several approaches as well as LOD calcs, but I keep running into dead ends. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The feedback has been great from our last meeting. Thanks so much to Jayme Lubben for hosting at HP and presenting on calc's table calcs, and LOD calc's. And many thanks to Stephen Skinner for his presentation on Viz for Social Good. We hope to do a meeting later this year focused on a community issue. I'm attaching a link to Jayme's presentation and workbook along with the workbook of calculation exercises. Thanks for coming and we hope to see you at upcoming meetings.

Hi,

I am brand new to Tableau and I have been tasked at work with getting some dashboards created however I do not have the time at the moment to learn Tableau and wanted to know if someone had a Tableau consultant that I can sit with and get them to build what I need and I will learn as they develop my dashboards.

I am a quick learner and fluent on lots of other things, however, I need to move it along faster than I can learn/teach myself. Thank you, Julie

Join us at HP, Inc in Rancho Bernardo on Feb. 27 for the next SD Tableau User Group where we will be covering all types of Tableau calculations.

Jayme Lubben will be presenting on calc's, table calc's, and LOD calc's and then we will put up some challenges for everyone to  do on your laptops.

We hope to see you there!

I just started a job as a Business Intelligence Specialist for a company here in San Diego, they want update the password that has been embedded in the dashboards. Is there a way to do this and push this update to any dashboards using embedded credentials. The concern is an update will cause the to fail. I understand my question is a bit elementary, I've not had to deal with this in the past.
