Beginner's Guide

Hey, If you are new at trailhead & don't know where to start. Here we are to guide you through the journey from beginner to expert.

Hi, I've recently joined salesforce and am hoping to go down the admin path, have started the admin beginner trail and am really enjoying it. But I'm a bit stumped in the data management module, particularly the data import section. I've followed the videos and theory and am relatively well versed in exel but the videos assume a higher foundational knowledge than I currently have. I just wanted to know if there's a more basic resource I could use to get a better understanding before proceeding. The area I'm struggling with is really on the exel side rather than the salesforce side as I have used some of the functions but not all of them before (have worked in the health industry for a long time). Would really like to understand this properly before moving forward and any resources/links would be greatly appreciated

Hello @Yousuf Mahomed which unit is concerned exactly ? For a salesforce point of view, you could have a look at

For the Excel point of view, please make sure you have got the right separator. If not, please adapt your computer locale, or edit and replace the separator (for example all ";" by ",") to allow the file to be imported

Hi everyone! In brand new to Trailhead. My buddy is a Salesforce admin and introduced me to the group. I was going to go the admin path as well but the more I research I think the consultant route is more for me. I have a pretty strong background in sales and public speaking. What do you guys think? Also should I be admin certified anyways? What trail do you suggest starting with?

No worries, @Ejesh Soltan. Happy to help! What I am suggesting is to think of a business problem and then solve it in the development org. It could be anything. To give you an idea, you can develop a lead management system that goes beyond standard Salesforce features, enabling more in-depth lead tracking, scoring, and automated lead assignment based on various criteria.

Additionally, create a customer support application that allows organizations to efficiently manage and resolve customer issues. Implement automation for ticket assignment and escalations.

You can also build an Experience Cloud site that you may use as a portfolio. Here's a link to a Trailhead resource that may help you with this: https://trailhead.salesforce.com/content/learn/projects/build-your-personal-portfolio-on-salesforce

    One additional Suggestion:

    Networking and Community:

    • Join Salesforce communities, user groups, and forums to connect with other Salesforce enthusiasts, share experiences.

Hi,

With forms/pages, dashboard etc are there commerically available templates we can use. I see a lot of demos etc with fancy dashboards or with pages/forms that a tweaked or totally new designs etc and rather than building these myself, I was wondering if there is a place where they are shared or at least available.

Thanks

Hello!

I'm a newbie here trying to grasp my understanding on lookup relationships.

I understand the basic definition of lookup and understand the difference between other relationships ( vs master-detail )

But I'm trying to understand how we would say OBJ1 has a look up relationship to OBJ2 but OBJ2 does not have a lookup relationship to OBJ1. (is that even possible)

For Example : Accounts & Case have a lookup relationship.

On the Account record I see a case in the related list.

However on the case related list I do not see the Account.

Does this mean that the Case has a look up relationship to Accounts but Accounts does not have a lookup relationship to Case?

I always figured it went both ways and that there was no difference.

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

Thanks group!

    Hi John,

Yes, it is possible for one object to have a lookup relationship to another object without the reverse being true. In your example, the Case object has a lookup relationship to the Account object, but the Account object does not have a lookup relationship to the Case object.

This means that each Case record is associated with a single Account record, but each Account record is not necessarily associated with any Case records. In other words, the relationship between the two objects is one-to-many, with each Account potentially having many associated Cases, but each Case having only one associated Account.

The reason you see the related Case records in the related list on the Account record is because the lookup relationship allows you to traverse from the child (Case) to the parent (Account), but not the other way around. To see the related Account record from a Case record, you would need to create a separate lookup relationship from the Case object to the Account object.

I hope this helps clarify the concept of lookup relationships in Salesforce!

Let me know if you have any more questions.

In the "Customize an Org to Support a New Business Unit" module, the account for "Edge Communications" obviously does not show up. Since it said to create a new playground and no Playground IDs were given to populate the info. What do I do?
