Salesforce Organizational Growth Academy

This group is dedicated to Salesforce customers and partners who have participated our CxO Organizational Growth Academy sessions. It's a great place to share feedback, get ideas, and ask questions about supercharging the growth your organization though culture, leadership development, and market execution.

Thank you to all the executive leaders who joined our Small Business CxO track this week at Dreamforce! Hope you all had a fun, engaging, and educational experience in San Francisco!

As promised I've posted the slides from my "Wired to Win" presentation here and encourage you to join this group to ask questions, share best-practices, and continue the great discussion once the event concludes.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me or your account manager if there's anything we can do to help you grow your business and again, THANK YOU!

Thank you to all our customers who attended our Salesforce event in Fort Lauderdale yesterday! As a Toronto guy, heading down to Southern Florida in middle of the winter definitely took some arm-twisting by @James Prospero and @Adrian Fallow

but it was a GREAT event and I'm so happy I got to meet so many of you.

Very much appreciated the kind words and feedback on the presentation! As many of you asked for a copy of the slides, I've attached them to this post.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything I can do to help your organizations and best of luck putting these techniques to good use!

On the topic about culture, one of the best examples of a forward-thinking, well-articulated culture strategy is that of Netflix. This deck from 2009 (revised in 2011) has been viewed over *9 million* times and was referred to as the “most important document ever to come out of the Valley.” by Sheryl Sandberg.

In fact, just before the most recent Emmy Awards Forbes posted an article talking about how Neflix's culture of innovation could net them some serious Emmy wins this year (they actually ended up winning 7).

Both documents are worth a read and when you do, think about what you're doing to create a winning culture in YOUR team or company!

(Hint: focus on doing one or two small things at a time)

Liked this post in HBR on what new team leaders should do first.

Before rushing to execution:

- get to know each other

- show what you stand for

- explain how you want the team to work

- set or clarify goals

- keep your door open

- score an early win.

What new leaders should do first

Love the "secret" mindset Peter Thiel outlines in his new book "Zero to One". The article (an excerpt from the book) really makes you think. Sample quote:

"What valuable company is nobody building? Every correct answer is necessarily a secret: something important and unknown, something hard to do but doable. If there are many secrets left in the world, there are probably many world‐changing companies yet to be started."

Interestingly, Peter was an early investor in my last company, Rypple, and our "secret" was that people (especially young people) really wanted feedback on how they were doing at work but were afraid to ask and people didn't generally volunteer this info...hence, finding better ways to drive performance through feedback and coaching.

While as an entrepreneur, the implication here is explicit, think about how the concept applies to your business or team; in your drive to secure revenue, build amazing products, or service your customers, what's working? what's not? what "secrets" are you overlooking in how your business or team runs? what white-space can you turn on its head and exploit to amp things up?
