We recently added a new photo to the impact dashboard in this workbook

. It works fine in Tableau Desktop but, when published to Tableau Public, the user gets the following error message when clicking on impact tab at the top:

Unexpected Server Error

LogicException: Internal Error - An unexpected error occurred and the operation could not be completed.

AI suggested that. when images are embedded directly into a Tableau Public workbook, they inflate the workbook file size. The server times out or chokes trying to render that dashboard. So we tried the steps below but none of them worked.

Note: The new photo is the middle one and is behind a floating, transparent sheet that includes the tooltip info.

Any suggestions?

  1. Compress your PNG/JPG files (use a tool like TinyPNG or Squoosh) to reduce their file size before adding them to the dashboard. Then re-add them to the dashboard and republish.
  2. Remove the new images from the impact page in Tableau Public on your desktop, save, then re-add them one at a time. This ensures they're properly embedded rather than linked. When you republish, make sure "Include External Files" is checked in the publish dialog.
  3. Delete the workbook from Tableau Public entirely and publish as a new workbook rather than saving over the existing one. Overwriting can sometimes carry over corrupted state.
