Hello Tableau Community,

I have been exploring the Tableau ecosystem and have now reached a point where I would like to gain a deeper understanding of Tableau's licensing structure. Although there is information available online, I find it somewhat confusing. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could explain, in straightforward terms, the differences between the various licensing options.

I am aware of Tableau Cloud's seat-based licensing, where each user receives specific access and permissions based on the selected plan and edition (Viewer, Explorer, Creator, etc.). I would like to learn more about how these options differ from one another and the recommended use cases for each. What limitations does each of them have.

Hi, you may review the general features of each license:

@Ayhan Hasanov Hi, you may review the general features of each license: My comments, common roles and usesCreator License: You will need a creator license for:a.My comments, common roles and uses

Creator License: You will need a creator license for:

    a. Site Admin: Admin site configuration, create users, projects and more.

    b. Data Steward: Publishes and curate published Data Sources. Access to Tableau Prep Builder (Desktop app)

    c. Content Creators: To use Tableau Desktop (Desktop app) to create workbooks and publish them to Tableau Cloud. They can also create Tableau Pulse Metric Definitions

Explorer License: They don't have access to the desktop app.

    a. Analyst than need to create dashboards from published data sources or edit an existing workbook. They can use web edit to create/edit workbooks. However webedit features are not 100% the same as Tableau Desktop (Tableau has decreased the gap, but there are still a gap). They can also create Tableau Pulse Metric Definitions.

    b. An Explorer can be a Site Admin, however every Tableau deployment needs/requires at least one Creator License. You can't buy a site without a Creator License.

    Viewer License:

This license is for users that need access to view workbooks created by Explorers or Creators.

If allowed, any license can have access to view Tableau Pulse Metrics.

If this post resolves the question, would you be so kind to "Select as Best"?. This will help other users find the same answer/resolution and help community keep track of answered questions. Thank you.
