Hi Tableau Community,
I’m currently using a MacBook Pro M1 Pro(Apple Silicon) with Tableau Public 2025.2 (native Apple Silicon version). The app frequently crashes with the following behavior:
- Message: “Tableau has quit or encountered an unexpected error”
- The app quits unexpectedly, especially when I’m editing/creating a Calculated Field.
Interestingly, I also run Windows OS on Parallels on the same Mac and install the Windows version of Tableau Public 2025.2 there, everything works smoothly with no crashes or errors.
Has anyone experienced the same issue with the Apple Silicon (M1 Pro) version of Tableau Public 2025.2? Are there any known fixes, workarounds, or recommendations to prevent these crashes?
Thank you!
Hi @ALFA FADLILAH
I understand you're experiencing crashes with Tableau Public 2025.2 on your MacBook Pro M1 Pro, particularly when editing or creating Calculated Fields. This issue isn't unique to Tableau; other applications on M1 Macs have faced similar stability problems. For instance, users have reported crashes with SketchUp on M1 Macs running macOS Ventura. https://forums.sketchup.com/t/sketchup-2022-continuous-crashes-macbook-pro-m1-ventura/217138
Given that the Windows version of Tableau Public runs smoothly on your system, it suggests that the issue may be related to the macOS version or the native Apple Silicon support in Tableau Public. It's worth noting that Tableau has been actively working on enhancing support for Apple Silicon Macs. https://www.tableau.com/2024-2-features
To address the crashes, consider the following steps:
- **Update Tableau Public**: Ensure you're using the latest version, as updates often include stability improvements.
- **Check for macOS Updates**: Sometimes, system updates contain fixes for compatibility issues with applications.
- **Contact Tableau Support**: They can provide guidance tailored to your specific setup and may have additional troubleshooting steps.
By following these steps, you should be able to mitigate or resolve the crashing issues you're encountering.
Best regards,
